A proper Egyptian song in the style of Peter Gabriel's Passion but you know... .free and not nearly as good. In a past life, I was a musician. Not a particularly good one, nor that gifted. I played every instrument (except the harmonica, strangely could never figure that one out). My entire life changed in 1989 when I got a Fostex 4 track cassette recorder. Suddenly I could COMPOSE songs, play several instruments. In late 1990, I got a synthesizer with 8 tracks internally with drums and a way to record the music, then add 3 more tracks on the multitrack recorder. This was me experimenting for hours upon hours just writing and playing music for years. I had a plateau though. I only wanted to reach a certain point in my playing and songwriting. By 1997 I had reached certain goals and music just lost it’s luster. I recorded an “album” which was really just a collection of songs I had started in college and finally got these to a point that I was pleased with. One song stood out though by quite a large margin. I started music with band and that came from my love of orchestral scores for movies. When I was 5 years old I got the single for STAR WARS MAIN TITLE with a B-Side of CANTINA BAND, which lead to the double album soundtrack to Star Wars, which is still in a frame on my wall right now (thanks Shane Howard!). With Star Wars came Indiana Jones and more John Williams. And from my love on Indiana Jones came a fascination with Egyptology. In 1996, I had the opportunity to go to Egypt with my friend Maurice. I had just had a major break up and Moe’s father had just passed. We needed something to jumpstart our lives again and a trip to the Middle East seemed like a radical and new idea. While we were there in Egypt, a song kept ringing in my head, like a melody that would not go away. It was like it was from a dream or from a distant memory that I could not quite place. One night towards the end of the trip when we were in Upper Egypt (which is in the south near Nubia because the Nile flows NORTH), the hotel had a piano in one of the larger rooms. I sat at the piano and worked out this melody that had been haunting me every day in the desert. I felt like the Sahara called to me and pulled at me in a way nothing else in my life ever had. This melody and song just came out of me and spilled out. A year later, working with my pal Jeff Krider, the drummer from my bands in High School and College worked on this song. Jeff was brilliant, more brilliant than I think I ever told him (remind me to send him a text…..) and he helped shape the song’s direction and dynamics. This song wound up being the closest to John Williams I would ever get. I’ve loved the song dearly since that first time sitting at the piano and I loved it even more after Jeff and I worked on producing it for several days. But still. Something was missing. The drums were synthetic and not exactly what I ever pictured. I had always, ALWAYS wanted that Peter Gabriel 1991 Passion authentic Egyptian drum sound. I never achieved it. I tried adding some analog bongos and other things, even a group of friends batting away at cardboard boxes but it always fell short. The song was very good anyways, one of maybe….. one good song I ever made. And now in 2023, with all the innovations in audio recording and availability to connect with humans all over the globe, the chance to revisit this simple song 26 years later presented itself. And over the past two weeks, I tinkered and toyed and I enhanced this old track by adding the authentic Egyptian drums I always heard in my head. And now the song is remixed, remastered and presented to the world. The way I always heard it in my head when running up a 60 foot sand dune near Karnak Temple in Egypt. RCP2022-000550 Matthew Berdyck harassed a reporter, Kim Burrows of NBC Reno. She and the station filed for restraining orders. This is the hearing held on November 8th, 2022 and he appeared via Zoom. His own emails submitted in court contradict his statements, like when he says he does not live in Reno, but sent emails to the station that he lives in Reno.The last few minutes of this hearing show how out of control Matthew Berdyck has become. I cannot believe he was not held in contempt of court. El Paso, Texas sonnyboo 2022-02-26 | This is just a visual montage of my return to this beautiful icon of the American Southwest and the ending explains what drew me back. I had not been back to El Paso in 30 years, since 1991. My time living there in the 1980's was tragic and yet my heart always remembers this city with fondness. Being so close to Juarez Mexico and New Mexico means you are driving distance to a lot of fascinating sites like White Sands. I focused on the "thunderbird" on the west side of the mountain because, as you can see in the footage, it was visible from the house our family built in 1984. My kitten, Princess Kitty Awful-Cat, only a few months old at the time, joined me as an assistant director. This was the best day of my life and I didn't know it.
