I feel like just uploading my segment of the collab felt a bit barren, so I took the opportunity to share my Twitch, hope this wasn't intrusive.
Also, pardon for this relatively low effort upload update video, with university work coming into my life uploads are going to come at a much slower rate than usual. So, I'll be over at Twitch streaming my work whenever I can. A proper update video will come up eventually, explaining everything related I've got planned for Twitch.
Self Critique Chapter three in this series of running writing of my thoughts on my animations, it's pretty much diary entries looking back on it. Raw, unedited, and full of grammar issues. Anyway, it's pretty cool that a handful of people have read this, and it's even cooler than folks expressed that 'I'm too hard on myself'.
Honestly, I don't think I am. There are ideas in my head that I just can't execute, so I really wanna push myself to see what I can actually do. With this video in particular, I really wanted to try out create long background so I'm able to truck or pedestal my virtual camera. I think it worked out fine.
Though the main focus here was to shake off some rust. I had to fly over to the Philippines for family stuff and enjoyed my stay for almost two weeks. Despite my enjoyment, not being close to a graphics tablet for that amount of time severely hindered me. There's also university assignments to tend to and a dying computer I had to tend to, so there was a lot on my plate before I could properly begin this thing. So I said 'fuck it' and started a Patreon page, if it's gonna take this long to fart out this animation, won't hurt to spend some extra time to start one up.
Anyway upon completion, while I think the video is fine enough to publish, it wasn't as funny as I hoped it'd be. It just seemed grander stuck up in my head. Regardless, the video is fine if you like to see some pretty pictures move around a bit.
I'm hoping future project's comedic timing/editing will be much improved once I use Adobe Animate to storyboard stuff. 'Cause ya see, how I usually storyboard was listen to an audio file of whatever and draw it on Photoshop, and I'd just guess the timing. I had to imagine what would these images look like if they were moving whilst I played the audio in a seperate program. It's a tedious process that often causes a bunch of errors.
Sometimes I create too much drawing, 'causing to much information on screen leaving no pause for a joke to dwell for a bit. Or I create too few drawings and the screen feels boring for a tad too long. I pretty sure you can grab some examples in this video, but I don't care much to write them down now. What I will say though that sucks is the inaudible low drone noise that plays when Ryan explains to Matt about his thoughts on the inklings' age. If you have shitty speakers/headphones or your just listening on your phone/tablet speakers, I don't think you can properly hear the drone
Oh shit, that's right, I don't know anything about sound design. That's something I severely need to work on. Sound is like half the video, and it can just elevate a decent video to something good, or even great. and this video was decent. Not my best one but likeable enough. I'll try shooting for the stars next time.
On the upside, I really like the intro bit. It's honestly my a favourite part.
I think that's all I need to say and ramble about. If there is anymore, I'll dump 'em below this mess.

Self Critique Oh dear, my eyelids may as well be sandbags, but regardless I'll rant about whats went on my mind throughout the process In all honesty, I'm surprised an animated on this episode hasn't been done before, at least not to my knowledge so I may as well try it out.
The initial idea sparked when I mentioned to my sister "It'd be pretty cool if that episode was kinda animated like that FLCL manga segment." I also wanted to do something like every animation I do, something about it visually will be different; and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. The idea seemed easy enough in theory, but I came across a couple of hurdles.
The first being audio, specifically trying to shorten down that entire episode's worth of content into with a clear beginning, middle, and end. So I spent quite a bit of time trying smoothly transition these cuts with one another, and was able to accomplish something near the 2 minute mark. So I thought, sweet! Manageable.
Now the first segment was easy and familiar enough, just had to do what I did in my last video and pretty much ran into no problems.
Where the real problems began was trying to make the manga/comic pages. Because there were few things I realized. 1. I didn't know ANYTHING about properly making pages. From paneling, speech bubbles, utilizing effectively onomatopoeia (which I only did once since I only realized it at the end), and trying to properly arrange them in a pleasing composition 2. My linework, character/shape exaggeration isn't strong (which is highly important for this sorta work), so I'm venturing into a very uncomfortable zone 3. I had to work with massive resolutions so extreme close ups don't end up being too pixelated, which makes the program slow down which discourages me from making more movement that I would ideally want. 4. Learning new things about After Effects and trouble shooting why crap wasn't working. This was probably the most frustrating part since AE just seemed unreliable at times, only to find out I unticked on box or something like that which lead to the whole project essentially messing up
There were probably other problems that happened but none spring to mind at the moment, so what do I think about the end product? I think I accomplished my original idea, make an Oneyplays animated inspired by the FLCL manga scene. So that was neat. I don't think this was as funny as the previous one, since the hospital animation had a proper 'puncline' of sorts, whereas this video was about a bunch of guys rambling on about a topic frantically; and conveying it through this style seemed appropriate.
What I probably dislike the most is how 'fast' things went. Things kinda just zipped and zoomed so it doesn't let your eyes and brain properly process what you've seen, but I guess some sort of humor can be found in that? I don't know, I think my comedic timing just feels off in some places, and for me to create new assets and rework it for better timing purposes would make wanna jump of the nearest mountain.
I'm an awfully slow artist mind you, so when somebody asks for something quickly, I honestly try my best. Which is a skill I'm slowly trying to develop. It's the reason why I started these animations, to essentially force myself to get sick of constant renders and find quicker way to render or alternative appealing styles.
So yeah, I think that's all I gotta say. There's probably a bunch of typos but I won't be bothered editing/fixing all these, much like I did in my previous animated video.
Anyway, thanks for reading my ramblings Ciao!

Super stoked for the movie. Fingers crossed for the prize
So this is my somewhat first time really delving into how to use After Effects. I'm familiar enough with it to get around in an amateurish level, since certain freedoms aren't available in Premiere. So probably the most frustrating thing about the whole process is that the whole thing ended up being too 'quick' and all over the place for my liking. There was really no breathing room/still image to look at, no proper brief moment of pause so the gears in your head just click as you get the visual gag with the joke. I totally could have edited the sound clips I've used create the necessary breathing room for the entire video but I was so burnt out and tired of fiddling around with new stuff in AE; that I didn't want to go into Audition and back into AE constantly just get the exact timing right. Eh, whatever, I think it looks decent enough to show to people who like this sorta content. Honestly, the most I've learnt from doing this was how to paint relatively fast compared to what I usually do. I'm often quite meticulous with my layers in Photoshop and spend a needless amount of time on a single image. So of course I wouldn't want to do that with every shot in here. Some shortcuts I tested out seemed to work, while some other tricks actually made me put more time into the image. Welp, what can ya do. Was planning whether or not to put this up since it's so short because I forgot to record a majority of the process, but some people were asking how I made this when I posted it on twitter. So here you go.
All I did was essentially sketched out the animation in flash to get a gain a visual sense of movement. From there, I exported the 6 drawings I did in flash and painted them out via Photoshop, eventually being put back together through After Effects.
