THIN AIR - A Post-Apocalyptic Short Resistance Pictures 2019-06-14 | The end of the world is just the beginning. In 2017, the Resistance Pictures cast/crew set out to make a science-fiction short-film at Dead Horse Bay, but the film ended up being archived for 2 years until now. Writer/director Yoko Higuchi decided to revive the project and now we are finally here! We present to you our short film, "Thin Air", which stars Casey Drane and Nadeem Ali. Set in a post-apocalyptic world where an alien pathogen has wiped out most of humanity, two characters have a long discussion that test their morals. We really want to thank our two main leads who did a great job here, the crew who was there on set, and the people who lended me their voices for the intro of the film. WILDFIRE | New York: A City In Smoke Resistance Pictures 2023-06-10 | This week, New York was covered by a blanket of smoke that painted the entire city orange. On Wednesday June 7th, when air pollution was at its peak, director Yoko Higuchi went out, during his break from work, to film the apocalyptic sight in Times Square and Rockefeller Center. The footage was shot with his iPhone 12 Pro Max and edited to music from Denis Villeneuve's "Blade Runner 2049" composed by Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch. JFK: Tragedy in Dealey Plaza Resistance Pictures 2021-11-23 | "Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country."Yesterday 58 years ago, on November 22nd, 1963, president John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dealey Plaza in Dallas Texas. He was 46 years old. Earlier this year, director Yoko Higuchi was able to visit this historic landmark in 20th century American history when visiting Texas and filmed this short film in honor of that tragic moment. Using archival footage from the day of the assassination in 1963 and footage he shot on his iPhone of the plaza along with Mica Levi's score from "Jackie", Yoko wanted to evoke the feeling of this devastating historical day. During his trip to Japan, writer/director Yoko Higuchi took the opportunity to film this short film with Chester Law (of @AnnoCinema). Inspired by "Ultra Q" and the works of Hideaki Anno, "Alien in Tokyo" details the thoughts of an alien, played by Yoko, as he tries to navigates our world and understand the human condition. The film was shot in Tokyo and uses the sounds of Jupiter (recored by the NASA Voyager) as its score. Had a great time making this. In 10 years, Yoko Higuchi has grown so much as a filmmaker and, before this current decade ends, we wanted to show everyone where started from. Here is a video comparing the first film he made in 2009 and the last film he made in 2019. The one on the left is a "Watchmen" fan-film he wrote, directed and starred in along with Edwin Chen (with Michael Evans' voice) and the one on the right is our newly released short film, "The Box Man", starring Bre Tomey and Nadeem Ali. THE BOX MAN Resistance Pictures 2019-12-31 | Only a man in a box can truly see. 2019 has been a great year for Resistance Pictures, so, to close the year and this decade, we present to you this new short film titled "The Box Man". The film is based on Kobo Abe's novel of the same name and stars Bre Tomey and Nadeem Ali. The story centers around a world weary young woman who goes every week to see the titular Box Man, who she made a special connection with. "The Box Man" is heavily inspired by early pre-Code Hollywood films like 1931's "Frankenstein". A WOMANS WORLD - Side-By-Side Comparison Video w/ Hideaki Annos Works Resistance Pictures 2019-08-05 | A side-by-side comparison of Hideaki Anno and Yoko Higuchi’s vision.A little over a week ago, we released our last short film, “A Woman’s World”, which was heavily influenced by the works of Hideaki Anno, the famed creator of “Evangelion”. Because of this, it was important to writer/director Yoko Higuchi to emulate Anno’s style in this new film. So much so in fact that he made sure that the film would look and sound as if Anno would direct it now. To ensure this, Yoko made sure to bring shots from Anno’s previous works as storyboards to then use for the cinematography. In 2017, the Resistance Pictures cast and crew ventured out to Dead Horse Bay in Brooklyn to shoot this post-apocalyptic story and it was a quite difficult shoot but a rewarding one. Everyone was on their A-game and got through the hardships on this deserted beach. Everywhere you look, it was a sight to behold and it was so amazing to shoot here on location for this intimate story.
