As the pop punk revival continues, Gen Zers such as Stacy who not only uphold its core tenets (mosh pits, lyrics about sadness bordering on nihilism, earworm guitar hooks, etc.) but also push it forward are enhancing the genre that gave the previous generation an identity and solace. Judging from photos and fan response, it’s def safe to say that the face-tatted 22-year-old is adept at fostering community at his gigs. In March he’ll traverse clubs across Europe; In May and July he’ll be rocking Stateside. Opportunity abounds. “No one is making music off of just their idea. It’s impossible. I like to be influenced,” says the Vancouver born and raised, LA based singer. He counts Beach House and $uicideboys among current fascinations, but has claimed that he “doesn’t listen” to artists who sound like him. Audiences initially learned about Stacy through 2021’s ‘NEGATIVE’ EP. Its subdued lofi mix gave it propulsion, but made way for his deeply angsty lyrics, so as not to be overwhelming. Fans really connected with the lyrics of “i walk this earth all by myself,” which tackle parental divorce and the terror of independence. While the production choices remain similar on this year’s self-titled debut album, evolution can be found in collaborators (fellow inked up sadboi Trippie Redd and genre hater The Kid LAROI) and subject matter. “Six are about girls, two mention death, and the rest vary,” he told FLOOD. As the pop punk revival continues, Gen Zers such as Stacy who not only uphold its core tenets (mosh pits, lyrics about sadness bordering on nihilism, earworm guitar hooks, etc.) but also push it forward are enhancing the genre that gave the previous generation an identity and solace. Judging from photos and fan response, it’s def safe to say that the face-tatted 22-year-old is adept at fostering community at his gigs. In March he’ll traverse clubs across Europe; In May and July he’ll be rocking Stateside. Opportunity abounds. “No one is making music off of just their idea. It’s impossible. I like to be influenced,” says the Vancouver born and raised, LA based singer. He counts Beach House and $uicideboys among current fascinations, but has claimed that he “doesn’t listen” to artists who sound like him. Audiences initially learned about Stacy through 2021’s ‘NEGATIVE’ EP. Its subdued lofi mix gave it propulsion, but made way for his deeply angsty lyrics, so as not to be overwhelming. Fans really connected with the lyrics of “i walk this earth all by myself,” which tackle parental divorce and the terror of independence. While the production choices remain similar on this year’s self-titled debut album, evolution can be found in collaborators (fellow inked up sadboi Trippie Redd and genre hater The Kid LAROI) and subject matter. “Six are about girls, two mention death, and the rest vary,” he told FLOOD.
