Byrnas Drill of the Day - Musical Chairs Byrna 2024-10-14 | Today’s “Prepared to Defend” drill of the day is…musical chairs! This drill is designed to force us to shoot from awkward sitting positions so that we learn how to get rounds off quickly without wasting precious seconds settling into a shooting stance. If you’re like most people, you spend a lot of time sitting, and if a threat presents itself while we are seated, we need to understand how to move our body to still get off accurate shots.To set up this drill, we just need a chair and one target placed 10-15 feet away. You will also need whatever means you carry your Byrna in while out in public, be that a holster or sling bag.We’re going to start this drill seated with the chair facing the target. As we begin, we will draw our Byrna while remaining seated and fire 3 rounds at the target, then stand, get into a good firing stance, and fire an additional 2 rounds. Sounds easy, right? For the next iteration, we are going to turn the chair 90 degrees to the right and complete the drill again. So on, so forth until we have made it all the way around.So here is a pro tip: As you turn to address your target, try to move as much of your upper body as you can to closely resemble a normal shooting position from the waist up. During the lengthy attack, where multiple people attempted to step in to help, Hayes shot the protestor once in the abdomen with a pistol he was licensed to carry.Once police arrived, Hayes, the victim in the attack, was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon as well as violation of a constitutional right causing injury. Drill of the Day: Byrna Box Byrna 2024-09-09 | For more information visit byrna.comToday’s Prepared To Defend drill of the day is… Byrna’s Box Drill. This drill is a modification of the classic box drill and trains us how to buy time to more efficiently engage two targets. This drill also assumes that we are going to remain static and not move off the x as we’ve done in previous drills. To set up this drill set the targets at a distance away from you that you are comfortable with, and then set apart from each other. The spread distance is up to you but I would keep them within about 30 degrees from your shooting position. Today we’re going to start this drill at either the low ready or what we call position three, with the weapon tucked into our chest but pointed down range. But you could also start this drill from the holster if you so choose. As we begin the drill we are going to engage one target with one round, then transition to the other target and fire two rounds, then transition back to the first target and fire one additional rounds for a total of 4 rounds. By using this 1-2-1 cadence, we are slowing down the first attacker with the first round, allowing us to more quickly get to the second attacker and then coming back to assure the first attacker has been stopped. So here are some pro tips: When you are transitioning from one target to the next, lead with your eyes. Look at your target first, then start moving your body to have a much easier time lining up your shot. And secondly, don’t just move your arms or shoulders. Focus on turning your hips so they are squared up on the target your engaging, this eliminates a lot of the unnecessary movement in your upper body allowing you to get on target faster. So get out there and train early and train often so that if the time comes you’ll be Prepared to Defend.

If They Only Had A Byrna - Man Shoots Up Parking Lot Byrna 2024-08-16 | For more information visit byrna.comOn this episode of, If They Only Had A Byrna… A man in fires a spray of bullets from an AR 15 at suspected car burglars, injuring one. This last month in Antioch, Tennessee, a man witnessed two subjects attempting to break into his vehicle as it was parked in the apartment complex lot. He subsequently retrieves his AR 15 and fires multiple rounds at the suspects, hitting one of them in the leg but also hitting 4 vehicles in the parking lot with multiple rounds. Police subsequently responded and seized the shooters rifle. While the suspect who was shot was only wounded the shooter will likely face multiple criminal charges. If they only had a Byrna… the car owner could have used the mission 4, a launcher modeled after the AR 15 pattern to deliver as many as 60 rounds on one co2 cartridge of Byrna max or pepper at the would be car burglars. Even if some of his rounds missed, the resulting cloud of chemical powder would have saturated the area and rendered the criminals incapacitated. Stray rounds from a mission 4 also would not have damaged other residents vehicles or possibly killed someone, making it a much safer and effective use of force. It's important to remember that any forced used against another person, even in self-defense and especially in the defense of only property must be reasonable, which will be difficult to prove in this case. I Just Shot Someone With a Byrna... Now What? Byrna 2024-08-05 | For more information visit byrna.comYou’ve just had to deploy your Byrna launcher to defend yourself against an attacker… now what? The first thing to remember after a deployment is to get to safety. Even if the assailant has fled the location, you should get somewhere that you know is secure. Call the police as soon as you can. If other people were present, its likely they may be calling the police as well, but who knows what they will tell them, so make sure they get the facts directly from YOU. When you do call, tell the dispatcher these things:-Who you are and where you are-What you are wearing so police can quickly identify you on arrival-That you used a Byrna less-lethal launcher to defend yourself -And give them a description of the suspect and where they are or which way they fled-Try not to say too much more to the dispatcher, but if you are in an area that may not be completely secure, stay on the line with them until police arrive. This is important: Make sure you do NOT have the launcher in your hands when police arrive. Stow it before their arrival, or if you have to keep it out to make sure you or others stay safe, place it on the ground AS SOON as you see officers arriving on the scene. With these tips you should be confident that even if you do have to use your launcher against a threat you will still be prepared to defend.

During a critical incident many people tend to lock up, only able to focus on a single task at a time. This drill teaches us to move laterally, and preferably toward a position of cover while simultaneously engaging our target. The distance that we start this drill from our target isn’t all that important. Pick a distance that you are comfortable with at first and then you can always back up to increase the difficulty. Here we also have this board to represent a piece of cover that we are going to move to about 10 feet away. As we begin, we are going to start moving laterally toward our cover while simultaneously drawing our Byrna and firing three rounds. As we reach the cover we reassess our target at this point. So here is a Pro Tip. Point your toes the in the direction you want to travel and allow your torso to stay squared up with the target. This way your shooting platform from the waist up doesn’t change and you’re far less likely to trip. Targets moving laterally are harder to track by a would-be assailant, and putting a hard object between you and your attacker is always an advantage no matter what they are armed with. So get out there and train early and train often so that if the time comes you’ll be Prepared To Defend.

This particular Papa Murphy’s is located inside the Smith’s grocery store at Central Ave. and Tramway in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ok, those from Albuquerque know that this location is not in the best part of town.I go in, pay for my family size supreme pizza, and leave. As I am exiting the store, I am immediately approached by a homeless dude who had a striking resemblance to Charles Manson. He grabs my arm and says, “Give me that f*^king pizza!” I turned and immediately replied, “Go f*^k yourself!” When I turn to walk away, the homeless dude shoved me and grabbed my pizza. Well, nobody jacks with my Family Size Supreme. I immediately reached into my jacket pocket and replied, “Here, have some pepper with your pizza!” I whipped out my Bad Guy Repellant (BGR) pepper spray and gave my newfound friend a good three-second blast right in the eyes. He immediately threw the pizza in the air, which went in about fifty different directions, grabbed his face, and started screaming.I turned to discover that a security guard standing by the door had witnessed the entire event. He was laughing his butt off, “Pepper for your pizza, that’s the funniest thing I have ever heard.” The security guard was laughing so hard, that he was down on one knee with tears in his eyes. Byrnas Prepare to Defend Drill of the day: BACK OFF Byrna 2024-07-22 | For more information visit bryna.comToday’s Prepared To Defend Drill Of The Day is… Back OFF. This drill represents an encounter that has started off very close and teaches you to create distance while engaging the threat. This distance is not only important to get us away from an attacker but if you are using a Byrna Max or Byrna Pepper round it also assures that you will be outside of the affected cloud of chemical agent. Since the vast majority of real-world encounters will start between 3 and 5 feet, we are going to start this drill just out of arms reach from the target. As you begin the drill, start by backing straight up to create as much distance as you can from the target while simultaneously drawing your Bryna from your normal carry position. After we draw and present the Byrna we are going to fire three rounds from our 5 round magazine and then re-assess our target. The key to this drill is to keep moving through the entire iteration until you have created at least a 20’ gap from the target. Once you are able to move continuously through the drill and make solid hits, you can begin picking up the pace. You can also increase the difficulty by putting yourself on a shot timer seeing how fast you can both create that distance AND make accurate hits.

After turning into a residential area, the rider jumps off the bike and attempts to run on foot. Byrna Basics: Stance Byrna 2024-06-14 | One of our other important basic fundamentals is our shooting stance. While there are several different stances out there, numerous studies have shown us that for the most part, when a shooting occurs, people shoot it whatever stance they are currently in. Because of that we advocate training in a neutral fighting stance. This stance mimics a natural comfortable standing position. As you can see larks hips and feet are squared off to the target, and shoulder width apart. The most important aspect of this stance is the slight bend at the waist that shifts her weight from her heels to the balls of her feet. This allows her to react and move quickly if the need arises. As we move up her back we see her shoulders rolled into the center of her body and her head in a neutral position, straight up and down, bringing the sights of the launcher up to her eyes and not her eyes and head down to the sights; this is very important. Finally her shoulders are mostly square to the target and both her arms are extended, equally distributing pressure between the two of them. Spending time to make sure your have a solid stance while training will make sure that you are providing a stable platform to shoot from, so that if the time comes, you are prepared to defend

He was quickly intercepted by the mayor’s personal security, a San Jose police officer wearing plain clothes. The suspect then attacked the officer and a fight lasting several minutes ensued between the two until backup could arrive to assist. The plainclothes officer sustained several injuries as a result of the fight and would spend the night in the hospital for treatment.If they had only had a Byrna… the plainclothes officer would have had an elevated but appropriate level of force to deter and subdue the assailant possibly allowing him to take the suspect into custody without a fight. A man in Fullerton California is killed by a bean bag shotgun after an encounter with police. Earlier this month, police responded to several reports of a man possibly high on narcotics, acting erratically outside of a Fullerton McDonalds. Upon their arrival, the man became increasingly agitated and began swinging his belt at the officers. After attempting to negotiate with the subject for 10 minutes one officer unsuccessfully deployed an electro-conductive weapon, further agitating the individual. A second officer eventually fired four less-lethal direct impact or bean bag rounds for a 12ga shotgun, subduing the suspect. However, upon reaching the subject, they observed that one of the bean bag rounds had penetrated his chest causing massive bleeding, and despite treatment, the suspect would be pronounced dead a short time later.If they only had a Byrna, then officers would have had the option to first deploy max or pepper rounds indirectly, using just the cloud of chemical agents to subdue the suspect. And if they needed to escalate to direct impact, all of the Byrna rounds have been extensively tested by third-party labs to assure that the chance of penetration or causing serious bodily injury, even at point-blank ranges is almost non-existent.While officers deployed the less-lethal rounds as they were trained this isn’t the first time that this type of ammo has caused serious bodily injury. This argument quickly escalated and one of the men became visibly aggressive, started advancing toward the other subject, and then began kicking his truck. The second subject then drew a firearm and fired one shot, striking the aggressive male.
