Sedlos Mission Editor Tutorial: Unlimited AI Fuel

Are you tired of hearing "2 Ejecting!" from your AI wingmen because they use their afterburner like it's going out of style? Well, fear no more, I can offer you a solution.

There is an "Unlimited Fuel" option in the waypoint actions for you to set, and the AI will never run out of fuel. The problem is, that if you set that at mission start they will remain full of gas and heavy as... the weight of the world crushing down on a recent college graduate.

In this video, I'll show you how you can use "Triggered Actions" to set the AI fuel to unlimited at a certain level. This will FREEZE the AI fuel at that set amount, which will:

a) Prevent them from running out of gas.
b) Keep them at a good fighting weight so they can kill MiGs.

But Sedlo, you ask, why not just set the AI fuel to 15% at mission start and then have them unlimited then? Well, because you want them to be heavy at first, to simulate accurate flight dynamics at launch. (or at least I do).

Anyway, watch the video and you'll see how simple it can be.

Sedlo Mission Editor Tutorial: Make Me Invisible!

Good day, eh! This video I'll show you how to make your plane (or others) be invisible to the AI if you go below 500 ft.

Why would you do this? If you want to structure a campaign (really, a story) and you need the pilot to be safe if they're low, you can do it! Sometimes the AI has a God-like view of the battle space... Like there is no way those MANPADS can see me if they don't have line of sight.

This way you can tailor the mission to your liking.

Tensions Escalate in Persian Gulf: Operation GULF GUARDIAN Underway

WASHINGTON D.C. – December 28, 1985 – The United States has initiated a swift and decisive military deployment to the Persian Gulf, codenamed Operation GULF GUARDIAN, in response to escalating Iranian aggression against civilian shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. With reports of multiple attacks on commercial vessels in recent weeks, the Reagan administration has taken a firm stance to ensure the free flow of oil and protect international maritime interests.

The volatile situation has prompted the U.S. government to begin reflagging Kuwaiti oil tankers under the American flag. This controversial move provides the U.S. Navy with the legal justification to directly intervene and prevent further attacks on these vessels, now considered American.

“We will not stand idly by while vital international shipping lanes are threatened,” declared Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger in a press conference yesterday. “The Strait of Hormuz is a critical artery for global commerce, and we are committed to keeping it open, by force if necessary.”

Elements of the U.S. Navy’s Seventh Fleet, including the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk and its battle group, are already on station or enroute to the region. They are being complemented by U.S. Air Force tactical aircraft from bases in the region, ready to provide air cover and rapid response capabilities.

Iranian rhetoric has grown increasingly bellicose in recent days, with official Tehran radio broadcasting warnings of severe consequences should the U.S. intervene. Revolutionary Guard commanders have vowed to disrupt oil exports if their demands in the ongoing Iran-Iraq war are not met.

Despite the sabre-rattling, analysts believe the U.S. deployment is a clear signal that Washington will not tolerate any disruption to the world’s oil supply. The move is reminiscent of past U.S. commitments to secure shipping lanes, though the scale of this deployment underscores the gravity of the current threat.

Concerns remain high among diplomatic circles that a miscalculation by either side could lead to a broader conflict. US Resumes Air Missions Amidst Rising Tensions

Washington, D.C. – The US Air Force has resumed flight
operations in the Persian Gulf region following a
recent incident involving Iranian fighter jets. The
Pentagon maintains that the aircraft were acting in
self-defence when they were forced to engage the
Iranian jets.

Iran has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, claiming
that the US is interfering in regional affairs. The
Iranian government has called on the United Nations to
pass a resolution demanding the full withdrawal of US
forces from the Persian Gulf.

US administration officials have countered these
allegations, warning Iran that any further aggression
would be met with a swift and decisive response. They
have reiterated the US commitment to protecting its
interests in the region and have emphasized the
nation's right to self-defence.

Dean Kaiser of the PolCo Institute has observed that
while the escalating tensions between the US and Iran
are concerning, there may be an unexpected beneficiary:
Iraq. "Iraq has a history of exploiting regional
conflicts to its advantage," Kaiser noted. "With the US
and Iran locked in a standoff, Iraq may find
opportunities to strengthen its position and influence
in the region

A few hours later, after careful reflection, I decided to also purchase the Viper ICP. I had read how you can mount both the Hornet UFC and Viper ICP together so you can flip between both.

Does it work? Yup!

I like everything about this product except one thing, which I'll describe in the video.

Death of a (Valiant) Tiger

Sim Sedlo 2024-09-20 | TLDW: I was making a Viper campaign. Now I am not. Reasons are complex, but I think you will understand. And I think you will like what will come in the next few weeks.

Hard decision to make, but it was the right one for me....

Many years ago, I started to work on an F-16 campaign on the Syria map. It was being built as I was building Bold Cheetah, and I was really looking forward to seeing it through.

You know how sometimes life gets in the way? Well, it did. The time I can spend on the computer got cut back quite drastically... I had only so much time to get things done, and the priorities were Bold Cheetah, followed by my 10 Percent True OIR missions.

Valiant Tiger started to collect dust.

I had built out 14 missions, with 2 of them getting to the voice over stage. One other was half done, and there it sat.

And as it sat, I learned more and more about mission making in DCS. And as it sat, thing started to break, little at a time, as things tend to do as development of the platform progresses.

And to test, fully, a complex campaign such as this takes an extraordinary amount of time. Going through and polishing it up to a releasable state would be... daunting.

I took a look at the campaign this week, and determined that the cost (time) to fix it up nice, plus putting in new voice overs in would be equivalent of actually writing and producing a whole new campaign.

Especially now, when I have a whole new bag of skills to bring to the task. I have a new methodology which drastically cuts down the time I need to sit at the computer to make it work. Which is good, because the time I have available to sit at the computer is less than it was before.

So... what's a Sedlo to do?

I think what I'll do is, over the next few weeks, polish up missions 1 and 2 (the ones with voice overs) and release them into the wild, so folks can have a taste of what could have been.

Then I'll finish working on the F-4 stuff I am doing... and then?

Who knows?

Whatever it will be, I promise you it will be good.

Whenever that happens.

Reflecteds MiG Killers - Mission 01 Playthrough

The quality of the scenarios, the voice overs and real-life procedures really make this campaign come alive.

I really enjoy the interactive checklists, they had so much and sounds so good.

This mission is inspired by events in the Persian Gulf that occurred in the 1980's. After a US Navy ship is hit by a wayward missile, the President deploys the 68th Tactical Fighter Squadron to the region in an attempt to calm the tensions.

Filled with realistic voice overs, immersive ATC and AWACS taskings, this mission may push your abilities to the limit. In-game options such as immortality, easier adversaries and skip-to push can aid you as you learn about flying the F-4, and allows you to tailor your gameplay experience to suit your style.
