The U.S. military has launched fresh strikes on Iran’s Larak Island near the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran says killed at least two people.
The attack marks the first U.S. strikes on Iran in more than a month and comes as Tehran and Oman hold talks aimed at restoring maritime traffic through the strategic waterway.

The U.S. military has carried out new strikes against Iran, targeting Larak Island near the strategic Strait of Hormuz in the first American strikes on Iranian territory in more than a month.
U.S. Central Command says American forces struck two Iranian launchers on the island on Sunday after observing Iranian forces preparing to launch rockets carrying mines into the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency, residents reported hearing an explosion near Larak Island.
Iran’s Tasnim News Agency says at least two people were killed and two others injured in the U.S. airstrikes.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has vowed retaliation, accusing what it called the “U.S.-Zionist enemy” of carrying out the attack and saying both Iranian forces and civilians suffered casualties.
An IRGC spokesperson, in a statement carried by state broadcaster IRIB, called the attack a “strategic and deadly mistake” by the Trump administration.
Larak Island sits close to the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping routes for oil and other energy supplies, and an area that remains at the center of escalating regional tensions.
The latest strikes also come as Iran and Oman continue talks over a proposed arrangement to restore maritime traffic through the strait.
Qatar and other regional mediators have backed those diplomatic efforts.
Iranian officials, however, have repeatedly linked reopening the waterway to broader negotiations with Washington and developments in regional security.
Sunday’s attack marks the first U.S. strikes on Iran since July 29th, when Washington carried out what it described as a heavy wave of strikes following an attempted attack on American military positions a day earlier.
