If Only There Were Someone - Job: The Problem of Suffering - August 17 BIC Church Collective 2025-08-17 | Job asked for someone to be a friend, a helper, a mediator, and a redeemer. Who do we know who might fit that description?Discussion Questions:1. How do you think people today conceive of God? Holy, all-powerful moral judge? Benign pushover, grandpa-in-the-sky? Distant watcher, observing without involvement? Impersonal force, more like Star Wars?2. As Job thought about bringing his case before his all-powerful, all-knowing Creator, he began to feel helpless, overwhelmed, and afraid. However, through Jesus we have learned to think of God as gracious, kind, and approachable. Do you think it is good for Christians to retain some of Job’s fearful reverence, or does Jesus do away with that? Do any passages of Scripture come to mind?3. Three times Job mentions a mysterious heavenly friend who could help him plead his case before God, in 9:32–35, 16:19–22, 19:25–27. Review these passages and discuss how they foreshadow Jesus and his work.4. In Jesus we have the mediator, intercessor, redeemer, and heavenly friend that Job wished for.
