If you’ve been surfing around you may have come across information about something called the Constantine Creed. This is a creed established at the Council of Nicaea in which Christians had to swear to accept all customs, and feasts of the Roman Empire.And the thing about this creed is that it never existed. It’s a complete fabrication. What you’ll see cited on certain fringe websites is not an ancient creed from the days of Constantine or the council of Nicaea, or any other ecclesiastical council. It’s part of a medieval confession for converts to Christianity that was recorded in an 18th century work called “Acts of the holy martyrs of the east and west.” And that medieval confession is misattributed to Constantine.There is no "Constantine Creed." It is not a recognized historical or theological document. Walk LIke Jesus Walked The Biblical Roots 2025-08-11 | I hear this one a lot and it honestly seems strange to me that it needs explaining. Especially when we read this verse in light of everything the New Testament teaches. I mean, think about it. Jesus obeyed Roman law. He taught His followers to render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s. And yet, no one today is going to suggest that Christians should be keeping Roman laws. Why? Because we don’t live in the Roman Empire. Now, we should still obey the laws of our country. That’s the principle Jesus modeled for us. So to walk like Jesus walked in that sense is to obey the laws of the country we live in, not the laws of Ancient Rome. Jesus also participated in first century Middle Eastern social customs. For example, He washed his guests dusty feet, and ate His meals in a reclined position at low tables, and kissed people when he greeted them. Are Christians required to do these things today? No! Because we don’t live in the first century Middle East. Now, we should still show hospitality, and share meals with other people, and greet friends in love. That’s what it means to walk like Jesus walked in a social sense. It doesn’t mean to engage in first century Middle Eastern social practices. We all know these things instinctively. And yet, Jesus also participated in temple worship, and observed the Jewish feasts, and dietary restrictions and regularly attended synagogue on the Sabbath. So does that mean Christians are required to do these things today? Of course not! Why? Because Jesus was a Jewish man born under the old covenant And believers today, whether they’re Jews or Gentiles, are under God‘s new covenant. And of course, we should still do our best to obey what God commands of us, and worship Him, and study His word and pray and love and serve others. These are all the things that Jesus modeled for us. And we do those things as new covenant believers in whatever country and whatever culture we live in today. To Reject Paul Is to Reject Jesus The Biblical Roots 2025-08-08 | You’d be surprised how many times I hear claims about rejecting the writings of Paul. It has sadly become common among Torah keepers to marginalize (or sometimes even completely reject) the apostle Paul. And honestly, I have zero tolerance for this position. Let me give you three reasons why. First of all, to paraphrase Augustine: If we accept the parts of the Bible we agree with and reject the parts we don't, it's not the Bible we believe but ourselves. So if you need to edit the text of Scripture in order for your theology to work, it's time to rethink your theology! You are not honoring God by chopping up His Holy Word for parts. Second, Jesus said this about the Apostle Paul in Acts 9:15: “This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel.” Jesus chose the apostle Paul. And these aren’t Paul’s words here, this is Luke writing this text. Luke tells us that Jesus sent Paul as His chosen instrument to proclaim His name to the world. And Jesus said, “Whoever receives the one I send receives me.” So, to reject Paul is to reject Jesus who sent him. And third, the apostle Peter refers to Paul’s writings as Scripture. 2 Peter 3 says that there are some things in Paul’s writings about the coming of the Lord which are hard to understand, and “which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.” By placing Paul's writings alongside "the other Scriptures," Peter affirms their divine authority and inspiration. Can Christians get tattoos? The Biblical Roots 2025-08-05 | What does the Bible say about tattoos? They’re mentioned only once—Leviticus 19:28: “You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord.”This command, part of the Mosaic Law, was given to set Israel apart from pagan nations. Cutting the body and marking it—whether permanently or temporarily—were common pagan mourning rituals, possibly learned in Egypt. The Hebrew word for “tattoo” (qa‘aqa) appears only once in Scripture, so its meaning is somewhat uncertain.As New Covenant believers, we’re not under Old Covenant laws (Romans 7:6). Tattoos aren’t inherently sinful, but motives and content matter. First Corinthians 10:23 reminds us: “All things are lawful,” but not all things are beneficial. Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, so we should ask: Does this tattoo glorify God, or is it driven by vanity, rebellion, or cultural pressure?If a tattoo promotes darkness—violence, the occult, immorality—it violates God’s call to holiness. But if it proclaims your faith, tells your story, or sparks gospel conversations, it can be a tool for ministry. Is Sabbath for ALL men? The Biblical Roots 2025-08-02 | In Mark 2:27, when Jesus said, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath” was He communicating that of all humanity was intended to keep the Sabbath? No. In this passage at the end of Mark 2, Jesus is clashing with the Pharisees because some of his disciples had picked grain on the Sabbath. And Jesus responds to them by saying something kind of weird: “He answered “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need? In the days of Abiathar the high priest, he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat.” That’s a strange thing say. The Pharisees bring up Sabbath observance, and Jesus responds by pointing them back to an OT incident that didn’t even occur on a Sabbath. He reminds them of 1 Sanuel 21 where King David unlawfully ate bread from the temple because he was so hungry. So why did Jesus bring that up? Well, as He so often does, Jesus, in his response, expands the conversation to address principles that are far bigger than the specific issue that the Pharisees brought up. He uses this Old Testament example to highlight that human need takes precedent over ritual law. He’s showing the Pharisees that their priorities are all wrong. So when He says “The Sabbath was made for man,” He’s saying that the Sabbath is a ritual designed for human beings. But that doesn’t mean all human beings were commanded to observe it. It's sort of like saying, “Shoes were made for people, not people for shoes.” That doesn’t mean every person must wear shoes. It’s a statement of priority. He’s telling the Pharisees that human beings don’t exist to observe the Sabbath. So the needs of human beings take priority over ritual law. It’s the same thing Jesus taught in Luke 13 when he healed a woman on the Sabbath, and in John 5 when he healed the man at the pool of Bethesda. What is the Law of Sin and Death? The Biblical Roots 2025-07-31 | What is the Law of Sin and Death? This is a really interesting turn of phrase. In Romans 8:2, Paul writes, “through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” So what’s going on here with these two different laws? Some want to read this as Paul comparing the new covenant law with the old covenant law, but that’s not really what’s going on here. Paul isn’t referring to the law of Moses in this passage. This is another example of why context is so important when we read our Bible. So let’s start one verse earlier to what’s going on. Romans 8:1 says “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” And whenever we see the word, “therefore” we should ask “What’s it there for?” Because this is a word that connects ideas together. It tells us that what he’s about to say, is a conclusion based on what he said previously. Paul’s been talking about guilt and punishment, and here he says that we’re not under what? Condemnation—which is a legal term. It’s being found legally guilty of our sin. And what’s the punishment for sin? Well, he said a couple chapters earlier in Romans 6:23, “the wages of sin is death.” So here in verse 1, Paul is saying that those who are “in Christ” are no longer condemned to such a penalty. Why? Verse 2. We’re no longer condemned “ because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” So, the laws that Paul’s talking about aren’t legal codes, but rather principles. Sort of like the law of gravity . That’s not a legal code, it’s an observation about how the universe works. In the same way, there is a moral principle in Gods universe that says: sin leads to death. That is the law or principle of sin and death. So he’s teaching about the spiritual principles at play in the universe, so to speak. Under our old, sinful selves, we were condemned to eternal death and separation from God. And Paul contrasts that with the “law of the Spirit who gives life.” This is the principle that operates in believers in Jesus. We are a new creation, and we are no longer enslaved to sin and condemned to death. So the “law of sin and death” refers to the unbreakable link between sin and death. But in Jesus, that chain is broken. Drawing Near to God? The Biblical Roots 2025-07-14 | What does that look like for Christians today to "come confidently into God’s presence”? What does that mean? Well, it means a few things for the author of Hebrews.WATCH THE FULL VIDEO: youtu.be/WrEBth5FsqYFirst, there’s no need for a priest to mediate for us—we have Jesus. And there’s no need for a physical temple because we ourselves have become His temple; God’s spirit dwells in us. And there’s no fear of rejection—we’re received through our faith as sons and daughters. And it means that sin no longer sin stands in the way—the blood of Jesus has cleansed us completely. So this is the ultimate expression of intimacy, and security, and access to the living God. And again, its all made possible by the blood of Christ.And while the author doesn’t say all of that directly in this passage, this is the theological case he’s been building throughout this book. And in verse 21 he writes: “And since we have a great priest over the house of God.” And I love this phrase “great priest,” or some translations say, “great high priest.” The greatness of Jesus as our high priest is directly tied to the effectiveness of what He accomplished—opening a new and living way into God’s presence. And this phrase “over the house of God” is an echo of an earlier idea. Remember, back in chapter 3, our author compared Jesus to Moses and said that while Moses was faithful as a servant in God’s house, Jesus is superior because He is the Son over God’s house; over God’s people, His family.So here’s the picture our author is painting: We believers have a high priest who reigns over God’s household. He represents us before the Father. He leads us and He intercedes for us. And because of that, we have every reason to draw near with confidence. And that brings us to the heart of our passage—and in a very real sense, the heart of the entire Book of Hebrews. I just want us to notice what he’s doing here. Revelation 14 and The commandments of God #apologetics The Biblical Roots 2025-07-09 | A lot of “Torah-observant” movements will point to Revelation 14:12 as evidence that Christians are under the old covenant law. This is where the apostle John writes: “Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.” He’s describing the saints as those who keep God’s commandments and believe in Jesus. And, of course, whenever a “Torah-keeper” sees the phrase “the commandments of God” they automatically—and often incorrectly—assume that it’s referring specifically to the same commandments that God gave to Israel at Mount Sinai. But not every command God has ever given applies to every person at all times. Some only apply to certain people, like men, or women, or priests. And some only applied at certain times: for example, building an ark, or gathering manna, or while in exile. And we’re obviously only expected to keep the commands of God that apply to us. He doesn’t expect us to keep commands that He gave someone else! And we don’t show our love for God by keeping commandments that He never gave to us. And the New Testament is very clear that many of the commands given to Israel under the old covenant do not apply to Christians under the New Covenant. For example, Hebrews 10:18 says “There is no longer any offering for sin.” The law required regular offerings for sin, but Romans 7:6 says, “We are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code.” Which is why Colossians 2 tells us not to let anyone judge us by what we eat, or the festivals we keep, or a Sabbath. It tells us that those things were shadows given to point us to the reality, which is Jesus. But Scripture teaches us that God often speaks in quieter ways. If we only look for the dramatic, we might miss His gentle whisper.This truth comes to life in one of the most profound theological moments of the Old Testament—1 Kings 19. The prophet Elijah had just experienced a miraculous victory: God answered with fire from heaven on Mount Carmel, proving His supremacy over Baal. But revival didn’t follow. Instead, Elijah was met with a death threat from Queen Jezebel. Discouraged and afraid, he fled into the wilderness, feeling alone and defeated.There, on Mount Horeb, God told Elijah to stand before Him. What followed was extraordinary:“A great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind, an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.” (1 Kings 19:11–12)The old King James calls it “a still small voice.” That’s where Elijah encountered the presence of God—not in the dramatic, but in the quiet.This passage reshapes our expectations. Elijah thought the showdown on Carmel would change everything. But God’s work was quieter and deeper. Understanding Forever: A Biblical Word Study The Biblical Roots 2025-07-02 | The question David asked is spot on: What don’t we understand about “forever”? Sometimes it just means for a really long time. And guess what? The same thing is true about the Hebrew word translated as “forever.” That word is עוֹלָ֗ם (olam). And when we dig into the word “olam,” we find something very interesting. And, by the way, I first studied biblical Hebrew remotely at the Israel Institute of Biblical Studies and if you're interested in learning Biblical Hebrew, they are a great place to start. I’ll drop my affiliate link in the video description below if you want to check out their courses. Great stuff.So, here’s the thing about olam. While it can mean literally “forever,” it technically refers to a long, unknown duration of time in the future or in the past. It’s like a distant time horizon that we can’t quite see. For example, in 1 Samuel 28:2, Achish says he’ll make David his bodyguard “olam.” It’s referring to the duration of his life, not literally forever. And in Deuteronomy 32:7 it talks about the “days of old (יְמ֣וֹת עוֹלָ֔ם (yəmōt ʿolām). So how do we know which way to understand “olam” when we read it? Context! For example, Leviticus 23 says that God’s feasts are a statute olam, and then later, under the New Covenant we’re told Christians aren’t required to keep those feasts because they foreshadowed Christ (Col. 2:16-17; cf. Rom 14:5–6). In the same way. Leviticus 16:34 says the sin offerings are to be olam, and yet under the New Covenant, “There is no longer any offering for sin.” (Heb 10:18).
