What started as a routine flight over a familiar location quickly turned into an important reminder about airspace awareness and safety.
While capturing cinematic aerial footage near Jean Dry Lake Bed in Nevada, we encountered ultralight aircraft actively operating from the same dry lake surface. Even in remote desert locations that feel wide open and uncontrolled, you’re never truly alone in the sky. Seeing manned aircraft sharing the environment meant we had to shift into heightened situational awareness, maintain visual scanning, and operate with extra caution to ensure safe separation at all times.
Moments like this highlight one of the most critical responsibilities of drone pilots. Always yield to manned aircraft. Always stay alert. And never assume a location is empty just because it looks remote.
