This video features Celia, a seasoned mother of four, sharing the raw beauty of her fourth birth—a fully sovereign freebirth. After welcoming her first three children at home with licensed midwives, Celia and her husband chose a new path: an undisturbed birth in their own space, with a trusted friend by their side—a Radical Birth Keeper School graduate and beloved friend. "It was a beautiful spring day, and I could feel things shifting slowly throughout the day.A few times during dinner, I had to pause and breathe through contractions. I knew this baby was coming once the kids were asleep.
My body began shaking, just as it had at the start of my last birth. This time, I embraced it, realizing it was just energy moving—my body attuning to the opening of the birth portal.I felt the need to get on the floor and wanted Ali nearby. He set up towels and a waterproof mat, put on my birth playlist, and lay beside me.Doubt crept in—why weren’t contractions closer together? Was the baby in a bad position? I knew these thoughts weren’t helpful, so I called some friends for reassurance. Just being witnessed was enough.
I chose surrender—listening to my body, releasing whatever needed to come out, moving however felt good.It was on. The waves came with intensity, and I moaned deeply through each one, softening into the sensation. My body swayed, my head resting on the bed, contractions rolled through me.The sensations were immense. Thoughts dissolved.
I clung to two words: “thank you, thank you.” When that wasn’t enough, I whispered, “just this one. Then—a pop. A gush of fluid. Relief. The pressure in my pelvis shifted. My body began bearing down, easing my baby’s head lower. I reached inside but couldn’t feel her yet. It didn’t matter. I knew she was coming.
Suddenly, her head was there! I breathed, whispering, “Nice and slow, baby.” With the next surge, her head emerged, then her body, into her papa’s waiting hands. Wow. Just like that, she was here.”
