University of Kentucky researchers are studying the annual bluegrass weevil, an emerging pest that can cause significant damage to golf course turfgrass.
Caleb Wilson, assistant professor of urban landscape entomology, and graduate student Grace Ferry are tracking the pest’s seasonal activity across Central Kentucky. Their findings will help golf course superintendents make more informed treatment decisions, reduce unnecessary applications and protect turf health.
The research is supported by the Kentuckiana Golf Course Superintendents Association, with additional support from Syngenta. The project demonstrates how the UK Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment connects research, graduate education and Extension to address real-world challenges facing Kentucky industries.
