On the bench today is a little Mondo Motors Fiat 500. This is our entry to the annual Paint It Pink invitational to raise awareness for breast cancer research. It’s Petra’s 4th appearance as special guest builder on Maple Leaf Customs.

The Fiat 500 (Italian: Cinquecento) is an economy / city car that was manufactured and marketed by Fiat from 1957 until 1975. It was sold as a two-door semi-convertible or saloon car and as a three-door panel van or estate car. Measuring 2.97 metres (9 feet 9 inches) long, and originally powered by a rear-mounted 479 cc two-cylinder, air-cooled engine, the 500 is considered one of the first purpose-designed city cars.
Despite its very small size, the 500 proved to be an enormously practical vehicle with large sales throughout Europe.
In 2006 the magazine Top Gear voted the Fiat 500 "the sexiest car.”
In 2007, the 50th anniversary of the original 500's introduction, Fiat launched another new 500, featuring a front-mounted engine and front-wheel drive.

On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Matchbox ’68 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet. It’s one of the coolest variants of the alltime classic Mustang. I got this in a mail call from friend of the channel Mark Leminen in Finland. This is my entry to the Diecast International Builders October invitational on the theme of rat rods.
According to my Wiki research, In 1968, Ford offered a special edition of the Shelby Mustang, called the GT500KR, which stood for King of the Road. It featured the 428 c.i. Cobra Jet engine, introduced the same year.

On the bench today is a pair of 1:64 scale Matchbox Superfast Lamborghinis. I’ve got a Marzal and a Miura which I got in a mail call from friend of the channel Joe M.
The Lamborghini Marzal is a concept car, first presented at the 1967 Geneva Motor Show. Designed by Marcello Gandini, it was not developed as a production car but remained a one-off, though the general shape and many of the ideas would later be used in the Lamborghini Espada. It appeared in action at a public event for the first time at the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix when Prince Rainier III, accompanied by his wife, Princess Grace, drove the car on his traditional parade lap before the start of the race. The Marzal sold at a Sotheby auction in May 2011 for €1,512,000 including buyer's premium.
Want to learn more about the Lamborghini Marzal?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamborghini_Marzal
Lamborghini produced the Miura between 1966 and 1973. It was the first supercar with a rear mid-engined two-seat layout, which has since become the standard for high-performance sports and supercars. When released, it was the fastest production road car.
Bertone was placed in charge of styling the prototype, which was finished just days before its debut at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show. None of the engineers had found time to check if the engine fitted inside its compartment. Committed to showing the car, they decided to fill the engine bay with ballast and keep the hood locked throughout the show!
Lamborghini's flagship, the Miura received periodic updates and remained in production until 1973. A year later the Countach entered the company's lineup, and stole the spotlight.

On the bench today is a 1:63 scale Matchbox Superfast Citroën SM. This casting debuted in the 1-75 series and was produced from 1972-1977 as #MB51. It came out in either metallic blue or metallic red with either a red or yellow interior. I got this one in a mail call from Ardy’s Diecast.
The Citroën SM is a high-performance coupé produced by the French manufacturer Citroën from 1970 to 1975. In 1961, Citroën began work on 'Project S' – a sports variant of their DS model. As was customary for the firm, many running concept vehicles were developed, increasingly complex and upmarket from the DS. At some stage in the 9-year project, it evolved from developing a faster variant of the 1955 DS to developing an entirely new, thoroughly re-engineered car. Citroën purchased Maserati in 1968 with the intention of harnessing Maserati's high-performance engine technology to produce a true Gran Touring car, combining the sophisticated Citroën suspension with a Maserati V6. The result was the Citroën SM, first shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1970.
Citroën's flagship vehicle competed with high-performance GTs of the time from other nations and manufacturers, such as Jaguar, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche.
After the 1974 bankruptcy of Citroën, Peugeot took ownership of the company and, in May 1975, divested from Maserati. Peugeot quickly decided to stop building the SM, as production had dropped to 294 cars in 1974 and 115 units the final year.

On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Hot Wheels P- 911. Originally released in the 1975 Flying Colors lineup, and meeting its demise as a Final Run series car in 2001, this casting had lived on in the lineup for a good 26 years.
This car was gifted to me by my friend and Four Horsemen teammate Paul, from Diecast Graveyard. It looks like it’s been stepped on with the roof caved in on the passenger’s side.
Early runs of the original 1975 enamel yellow release had PORSCHE stamped on the rear tail just like on the real car, as well as having Porsche Carrera cast into the base. This was omitted from later releases of the yellow version (as well as all others that followed) due to licensing issues with the Porsche trademark. Early releases also featured hybrid blackwall/cap redline wheels, with small capped wheels on the front, and the "new" redline wheels on the rear, these can be very desirable in mint condition. Later runs of the car from then all the way up to 1988 were issued with the standard 1970's redline or blackwall wheels.
The 911 (German - Neunelf) is a two-door 2+2 high performance rear-engined sports car introduced in September 1964 by Porsche of Stuttgart, Germany. It has a rear-mounted flat-six engine and originally a torsion bar suspension. The car has been continuously enhanced through the years but the basic concept has remained unchanged. The engines were air-cooled until the introduction of the 996 series in 1998.
In a 1999 poll to determine the Car of the Century, the 911 was fifth. It is one of two in the top five that had remained continuously in production along with the original VW Beetle. The one millionth example was manufactured in May 2017 and is in the company's permanent collection.

On the bench today is a 1:64 scale DCM brand Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman limousine. This is a premium model that was gifted to me by David from Diecast Life and Death. He asked me to do a commission build, using this casting as the main component in a Fury Road People Eater’s Limousine. Ultimately he sent it to me to keep myself, with the request that it still be made into the movie vehicle. I found the correct 3D files for the extensive resin printing that was going to be involved, and now, with the Four Horsemen August theme, it’s time!
In the movie a Mercedes-Benz 300 Series W123 was used. This is a 600 Pullman. But the Pullman is often used by heads of state, and is even more luxurious and stately than the W123. The Pullman is actually the forerunner of the modern Maybach marque. All class.
The limo sits on a heavily modified AM General M814 cargo truck which was 3D printed in 36 pieces for this project.

On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Hot Wheels Humvee. Designed by Larry Wood, this one debuted in the Mainline series in 1992. It’s always been made in plastic, with a metal base and has been retooled several times. Original versions had a turret-mounted high-caliber machine gun. Later versions removed the turret but kept the rear opening hatch. The latest mainline releases deleted the opening hatch.
The US Army HMMWV (High Mobility and Maneuverability Wheeled Vehicle) participated on its first combat mission in Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989. The Humvee saw widespread use in the Gulf War of 1991.

On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Matchbox 1964 Lincoln Continental. Designed by Gary Gopinath, this casting debuted in the Matchbox 1-100 series in 2024. This is my 4th and final Summer Road Trip 2024 video, this time with Mike Espo. We decided together on the theme of 4 door Gassers.
The Lincoln Continental is a series of mid-sized and full-sized luxury cars produced between 1939 and 2020 by Lincoln, a division of the Ford Motor Company. The model line was introduced following the construction of a personal vehicle for Edsel Ford, who commissioned a coachbuilt 1939 Lincoln-Zephyr convertible, developed as a vacation vehicle to attract potential Lincoln buyers. In what would give the model line its name, the exterior was given European "continental" styling elements, including a rear-mounted spare tire.

This car is for the 3rd installment of my 2024 Summer Road Trip series, this time with my online friend Vic Norman, Vic’s an amateur SIM racer, so that’s the theme we decided on together. Any SIM race car. I’m going to turn the GT3 RS into an RSR GTE in one of my first wide body enhancements.
The Porsche 911 RSR and its predecessors GT3 RSR, GT3 RS and GT3 R are GT racing cars from Porsche that are used in motorsport for long-distance racing. They are built according to the currently highest class in the world's GT sport, the GTE class from the ACO. The Porsche motorsport cars are built together in Weissach, Germany.

Originally called the Airacuda, it was designed by the late Ryu Asada. Mine’s a 2021 release with the mint green colouring. This is my submission for the July Four Horsemen invitational on the theme of Outer Space.

On the bench today is a DIY Fury Road scorched earth diorama 2.0. I use a plaster rock carving technique to achieve a realistic end result.
While the original Fury Road trilogy starring Mel Gibson was filmed in Australia, for Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) the production relocated to the sparse and arid environment of Namibia. I’m going for the reddish hills of that location.

On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Hot Wheels Super Van. This is my entry to the Super Huge Ginormous Build Off Phase 4 on the theme of TV or movie vehicles. I’m going with the Mutt Cutts Shaggin’ Wagon from Dumb and Dumber.
Super Van was first featured in the 1975 Flying Colors series. It was originally issued with two different tampos on each side. Originally, Super Van was cast with the option of not having any side markers, but all later castings have side markers. The glass color has changed over the life of the casting. In 2003, this popular casting was re-tooled as the '70s Van to be in the HotWheelsCollectors.com Series 2. Boxes can be found on the rear of the interior/window piece if disassembled.
Dumb and Dumber is a 1994 American buddy comedy film directed by Peter Farrelly and stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, two dumb but well-meaning friends from Providence, Rhode Island, who set out on a cross-country trip to Aspen, Colorado, to return a briefcase full of money to its owner, thinking it was abandoned as a mistake though it was actually left as a ransom.

On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Hot Wheels Ferrari 308 GTB. Hot Wheels debuted this in the Flying Colors series in 1978 as the Racebait 308. It was a design collaboration between Larry Wood and Bob Rosas. This casting originally had a plastic base before it was changed to metal in 1982. Mine’s a 1988 Color Changers 3-Pack release, which I got as a gift from my son-in-law when he was recently here for a European visit. Thanks, Adam!
This is my submission for the second of my 2024 Summer Road Trip Buddy Builds, this time with Simple Kustoms by Eddie Papandrea - the Godfather! We decided together on a Ferrari theme.
I also work on a larger scale Ferrari 288 GTO in this video.
According to my Wiki research, the Ferrari 308 GTB berlinetta and targa-topped 308 GTS are V8 mid-engined, two-seater sports cars manufactured by the Italian company Ferrari from 1975 until 1985.The Pininfarina-styled Ferrari 308 GTB was introduced at the Paris Motor Show in 1975. At the 1977 Frankfurt Motor Show, the targa topped 308 GTS was introduced. At the 1982 Paris Motor Show, Ferrari launched the 308 quattrovalvole, in GTB and GTS form.
The 308 was made famous by the television series Magnum, P.I. in which the series' lead, Thomas Magnum (Tom Selleck) drove the car around Oahu while on his investigations, from 1980 to 1988. Several 308 GTS cars were used, a new one for each season, most being auctioned off after filming and all with the license plate "ROBIN 1".
In 2004, Sports Car International named the Ferrari 308 number five on the list of Top Sports Cars of the 1970s.

On the bench today is a 3D printed mashup between a Volkswagen Beetle and a Porsche 962C racer. These 2 cars are not far apart on the family tree. They share the same DNA, both coming from the mind of Ferdinand Porsche.
The Volkswagen Beetle, officially the Type 1, was produced by from 1938 to 2003. It is one of the most iconic cars in automotive history. Its production run of 65 years is the longest of any single generation of automobile, and its total production of over 21.5 million is the most of any car of a single platform.
The Porsche 962C is a sports prototype racing car created to replace the 956. The 962 was introduced at the end of 1984 and replaced the 956 in the IMSA's GTP class in 1985 due to regulation changes obsoleting the 956. It was also introduced in the World Sportscar Championship's Group C category. Over its decade-long career, the 962 in its Group C form won the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice, with a derivative of the car, the Dauer 962 Le Mans, winning a further title in 1994. In total, the 962 scored nineteen championships across various series.

On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Hot Wheels Custom Volkswagen Beetle. I got this in a mail call from friend of the channel Aaron B. This will be my base casting for the first in the latest annual Summer Road Trip series, kicking it off this year with my fellow Horseman Tom, from Spork Syndicate. We decided together on the theme of Flying Cars. There’s a lot of trash bashing going on in this one!

On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Hot Wheels Chevelle SS Express. Designed by Phil Riehlman, this casting debuted in 2007 in the ‘Since ’68: Muscle Cars series. It’s based on the ’70 Chevelle SS.
This is my submission for the Diecast Graveyard American Independence Day invitational. All American muscle. I’m going to do it in a full red, white and blue Captain America livery.
The Chevelle is a mid-sized car that was produced by Chevrolet in three generations from 1964 through 1977. Bult on an A-body platform, the Chevelle was one of Chevrolet's most successful nameplates. Body styles included coupes, sedans, convertibles, and station wagons.
The Chevelle Super Sport, or SS, represented Chevrolet's entry into the muscle car battle. Engine choices for the second generation models ranged from the standard 155 hp six-cylinder and a 200 hp 307 cu in 5.0 L V8 as well as one of two 350 cu in 5.7 L V8s and a pair of 402 cu in 6.6 L engines. 1970 also saw the introduction of the 454 cu in 7.4 L engine which was only available with the RPO Z15 SS Equipment option. That’s the badge that I put on this one!

On the bench today is a 1:43 scale 1932 Bugatti T50. It’s made by Rio, an Italian diecast company. This is my submission to the annual Canada Day celebration. I’ve invited the community to join me in observing Canada’s 157th birthday by customizing any casting in any size, as long as it done predominantly in the Canadian flag colours of red and white.
The Bugatti Type 46 and later Type 50 were large enclosed touring cars and along with the Type 50B racing version, were all produced in the 1930s. The Type 46 used a 5.4 L straight-8 engine with 3 valves per cylinder driven by a single overhead camshaft. Power was reported at 140 hp. The Type 46 was a large car, weighing 2500 lb and riding on a 138 inch wheelbase. The Type 50 was a sporting coupe version of the Type 46. The Type 50 Touring was a sedan version of the Type 50. It used the same wheelbase as its predecessor, the Type 46, but shared the 5.0 L engine of the Type 50. The engine was tuned for torque, though, with 200 hp on tap. In total, 65 Type 50 and Type 50T Bugattis were produced between 1930 and 1934.

Canada has ten provinces and three territories that extend from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and northward into the Arctic Ocean, making it the world's second-largest country by total area, with the world's longest coastline. Its border with the United States is the world's longest unprotected, international land border. It is a sparsely inhabited country of 40 million people, the vast majority residing south of the 55th parallel in urban areas. The country is a Commonwealth realm and is officially bilingual (English and French). Canada’s capital is Ottawa and its three largest metropolitan areas are Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver. Our national sport is NOT hockey. It’s lacrosse!

On the bench today is a pair of 1:64 scale Hot Wheels Mercedes-Benz 280 SEL 4.5s. These are my entry to the Four Horsemen June invitational on the theme of 2 car mashups. I’m basing this on the Mad Max Fury Road Gigahorse.
In 1972, Mercedes-Benz introduced the W116 line, the first to be officially called the S-Class. Produced from 1972 through 1980, the W116 series featured a four-wheel independent suspension and disc brakes. The 280, 350, and 450 (4.5L version) models featured SE and SEL versions. Production of the W116 totaled 473,035 units. This was a groundbreaking sedan for Mercedes-Benz, and for the first time in the company history, the car had an obvious, blatant and outward emphasis on safety placed above a pure styling viewpoint.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_S-Class
The Gigahorse is a custom vehicle driven in the Mad Max Fury Road film by Immortan Joe. It built on a custom chassis, with a body made of two 1959 Cadillac Coupe de Villes sitting on top of each other. The film's original design called for a turret installed on top of a single Coupe de Ville but, as the production designer Colin Gibson explains, “In a world where nobody had one of anything, to show he’s got power, he’s the man who’s got two of everything,” and so the design was changed.
The real Gigahorse is approximately 4 meters high without the flags and weighs in at 10.5 tonnes. It has double 70” tractor tires on the rear. The rims and hubs were custom made. They gave a 16:1 drive ratio for a 95 kph top speed, but according to Gibson the Gigahorse managed speeds up to 125 kph while filming.

On the bench today is a Hot Wheels Corvette C7 Z06. It’s going to get a total makeover and if all goes well, should be recognizable, but barely, at the end of this video!
This is my submission for my online friend Peter Button’s 4th YouTube anniversary. Peter hosts the very excellent PB’s Retro Restorations channel. He’s invited the community to celebrate with him on a Corvette theme.
PB’s Retro Restorations

The Chevrolet Corvette (C7) is the seventh generation of the Corvette sports car manufactured by Chevrolet from 2014 until 2019. Mid-engine and rear-engine layouts had been considered, but the front mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive platform was chosen to keep costs lower. The racing variants include the C7.R, which won the GTLM 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The C7's LT1 6.2L small block V-8 engine put out 460 hp. The 2014 Corvette features a carbon fibre hood and removable roof panel. Its fenders, doors, and rear quarter panels remain fiberglass composite.

Back to the Future is the wildly popular 1985 American scifi comedy film starring Canadian Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson and Crispin Glover. Set in 1985, it follows teenager Marty McFly who’s accidentally sent back to 1955 in a time-traveling DeLorean built by his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown. His mission is to make sure his paretns fall in love, ensuring his own existence, and somehow get back to the future.

On the bench today is a TootsieToy 1939 Mercedes-Benz sedan. This is about as bare bones as you can get. Every year at this time, the diecast community honours the memory of Scott Koster who passed away two years ago. We called him Opa, and also the TootsieToy King, because that was his specialty. Thanks to the Diecast International Builders, of which Opa was part, for sponsoring this memorial build and keeping his memory alive.
TootsieToy is a manufacturer of diecast toy cars and other toy vehicles which was originally based in Chicago, Illinois. Though the Tootsietoy name has been used since the 1920s, the company's origins date from about 1890. An enduring marque, toys with the Tootsietoy name were consistently popular from the 1930s through the 1990s. I had a bunch of these as a kid.

On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Hot Wheels 2019 Ford Ranger Raptor. This is my entry to the June Four Horsemen invitational on the theme of World Service Day, where we honour the men and women that serve and protect us every day.
Raptor is a nameplate that's been used by Ford since 2010 for its high-performance pickup trucks and SUVs. It gets its name from both bird of prey and the velociraptor. The Raptor model line is intended as a street-legal counterpart of an off-road racing trophy truck and was introduced in 2019 in markets outside of North America. Optimized for off-road use, it’s fitted with four-wheel drive as standard equipment, a mid-travel suspension system, and all-terrain tires. The model is also equipped with the most powerful engines available in the F-150/Ranger lines. Along with wider fenders, the Raptor is fitted with its own grille, replacing the Ford Blue Oval emblem with large "FORD" lettering in the grille.

On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Johnny LIghtning Playing Mantis. I got this in a mail call from friend of the channel Joe M. It’s a Top Fuel dragster. I’m going to give it a unique Spiderman livery and a brand new set of dragster tires.
Top Fuel is a type of drag racing featuring the quickest accelerating racing cars in the world. It’s the fastest sanctioned category of drag racing, with the top competitors reaching speeds of nearly 350 mph and finishing the 1,000 foot runs in 3.62 seconds.
A Top Fuel dragster accelerates from a standstill to 100 mph in as little as 0.8 seconds (less than one third the time required by a production Porsche 911 Turbo to reach 60 mph). The incredible speeds on the short drag strips subject the drivers to about 4.0 g force over the duration of the race and with a peak of over 5.6 g force.
Measuring the power output of a Top Fuel engine directly is not easy. The main limitation is that the powerful engines cannot be run at maximum power for more than 10 seconds without overheating or possibly exploding. The calculated power output of these engines is most likely somewhere between 8,500 and 11,000 hp which is about twice as powerful as the engines installed on some modern diesel locomotives.

This video is a very special mail call. The sender of this package is David from TWYCE Diecast. The genesis of this video is my annual Porsche invitational, where each Spring the participants build a custom Porsche and pay it forward by giving their creation away. David took a larger scale car which he disassembled, customized with the logos of his and my YouTube channels and arranged them in a shadow box. It’s a terrific idea and I absolutely love it! Now it hangs in my home office as a reminder that the spirit of generosity is alive and well in the diecast community.
See you at next year’s #MLCPorsche5.

On the bench today is a 1:65 scale Matchbox Superfast Dodge Challenger Hot Rod which debuted in the Superfast 1-75 series. It was produced from 1982-1998. Mine was made in Macau which makes it a 1983-85 release. The original 1976 release had two hood scoop openings. This was later changed to the single, larger scoop.
This is my entry to the May Four Horsemen invitational on the theme of pace cars. I’m basing mine on the actual 1971 Indy 500 race.

As a bonus twofer, I also converted a Hot Wheels 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang, to match the real pace car that was featured in the 1964 Indy 500.

On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Hot Wheels Dodge Monaco. It’s the very well known and recognizable blue and white Sheriff #701 car. Designed by Larry Wood and Bob Rosas, this debuted in the 1978 Flying Colors series.
This casting has come out in many different themes and paint schemes over the years, including under the names Fire Chaser, Fire Chief, Highway Patrol, and Gleamer Patrol. It is, however, most well known as the Sheriff Patrol, the name with which it was associated with for many years.
The Blues Brothers was a Saturday Night Live act in the 70s, featuring John Belushi and Canadian Dan Akroyd. The Bluesmobile is a 1974 Dodge Monaco sedan that was prominently featured in the 1980 Universal Pictures film. The car is a decommissioned Mount Prospect police car, purchased by Elwood Blues at an auction after he had traded a previous car (a 1968 Cadillac Sixty Special) for a microphone. The Illinois license plate BDR 529 is a tribute to the Black Diamond Riders motorcycle club of Toronto, Canada.
“It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.”- Elwood Blues
The Bluesmobile has the ability to perform seemingly impossible stunts, like jumping over an open drawbridge, flipping backwards in midair and even flying for very brief periods of time. However, its cigarette lighter doesn’t work!

On the bench today are a pair of original 1:64 scale Hot Wheels Silhouettes. I got these in an eBay auction, because one of my life long best friends said it was his favourite as a child, so I wanted to restore one for him.
Designed by Harry Bradley, the Silhouette was one of the cars released in the 1968 Hot Wheels series, also known as the "The Sweet Sixteen". It’s considered the least valuable Hot Wheels car of the 1968 year because there were so many produced. The cars were packaged with a collector's button. The casting’s been retooled twice.
Hong Kong versions have blue tinted glass, a two-piece interior featuring a steering wheel stuck into the dashboard, longer, but thinner side pipes, and four square placement holes in the chassis.
The Hot Wheels casting is based on the real life candy apple red, all steel-bodied Sillouhette that was hand formed and built by Bill Cushenbery, on a modified '56 Buick frame. The car was completed by the summer of 1962, and sported a fuel injected Buick engine and wire wheels. These highlights were replaced in 1963 by a dual quad 429 Ford and slotted mag wheels.

On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Lledo 1920 Model T Ford Van. It’s my entry to the Super Huge Ginormous Build Off Part 3, sponsored by Paul at Diecast Graveyard. The theme is your favourite snack or condiment.
I settled on Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce because I’ve been cooking with it for years and it kicks everything up a notch.
The Model T was produced by the Ford Motor Company from 1908-1927. It is generally regarded as the first mass-affordable automobile, which made car travel available to middle-class Americans. The relatively low price was partly the result of Ford's assembly line production instead of individual handcrafting. The Model T, affectinately known as the "Tin Lizzie” was named the most influential car of the 20th century in the 1999 Car of the Century competition, ahead of the BMC Mini, Citroën DS, and Volkswagen Beetle. With over 15 million sold, it was the most sold car in history before being surpassed by the Volkswagen Beetle in 1972.
By 1918, half of all the cars in the U.S. were Model Ts. In his autobiography, Ford reported that in 1909 he told his management team, "Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black.” However, in the first years of production from 1908 to 1913, the Model T was not available in black, but rather only in gray, green, blue, and red. Green was available for the touring cars, town cars, coupes, and Landaulets. Gray was available for the town cars only and red only for the touring cars. By 1912, all cars were being painted midnight blue with black fenders. Only in 1914 was the "any color so long as it is black" policy finally implemented.

On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Johnny Lightning Custom Mako Shark from 1969. I got this in a mail call from Paul at Diecast Graveyard. This casting was designed and based on the 1965 Mako Shark II XP-830 concept car.
The Mako Shark II show car made its first public appearance at the New York International Auto Show in April, 1965. Its lines were a combination of a Manta Ray and the Great White Shark. Truly a Bill Mitchell inspired car with the coke-bottle shape and pronounced fenders.
The first Mako Shark II, was a non-running prototype with the outside side pipes rising up into the front fenders. It also sported some interesting, futuristic details, such as a squared-off steering wheel.
Initial high speed tests revealed that the car was unstable at high speeds. So much work needed to be done that there just wasn't enough time for a 1967 introduction for the new body style. 1968 would be the year that we would all see the newest Corvette. The front and rear fenders were more proportional, visibility was good, lift was minimal with the standard front air dam, and the legendary 427 big block engine was available in 5 different versions.
In 1969 the running version of the Mako Shark II was converted to the Manta Ray.

On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Hot Wheels ’55 Chevy Bel Air Gasser. Designed by Brendan Vetuskey, this one debuted in the HW Showroom: American Turbo series in 2013.
The Chevrolet Bel Air, especially its second generation design, is considered an icon of the 1950s. The Gasser design came out of American drag racing where the front end was jacked up to transfer more weight over the back tires.

On the bench today is a Tooned Hot Wheels Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6. It came out in 2023. This is my entry in the April Four Horsemen’s Mini Monster Truck invitational. Thanks to Neil Cummings for sending this to me in a recent mail call.
Monster trucks were fathered by Bob Chandler back in the late 1970s. He was an off road enthusiast who wanted to take his own Ford F-250 pickup truck to the limit. Chandler owned an aftermarket car parts store called “Midwest Four Wheel Drive” in St. Louis, Missouri, and to promote it, he decided to make his truck the unofficial mascot. He added 48-inch oversized wheels, and supported them with larger axles. He then cruised through St. Louis and the people and media were awestruck. But it wasn’t until 1981 when Chandler and friends decided to check if the Ford F-250, now called “Bigfoot,” could run over a few junkyard cars. The event was taped, and after its success, various promoters began calling Chandler hoping to feature Bigfoot at local car events.
Today, competition monster trucks have evolved into purpose-built vehicles with tube-frame chassis and fiberglass bodies, are typically 12 feet tall, and equipped with 66-inch off-road tires.

On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Hot Wheels '71 Plymouth GTX from back in the era of American muscle cars. This is my entry to the 2024 Custom Diecast Invitational hosted by Keith at Outlaw Speed Shop. The theme is muscle cars and the GTX with a 440 should qualify.
The GTX was introduced as the Belvedere GTX in 1967 by the Plymouth division. It was a mid-sized upscale-trimmed performance package advertised as a "gentleman's muscle car”. Standard was Plymouth's 440 cu in (7.2 L) V8 engine called the Super Commando 440 rated at 375 hp. Optional was Chrysler's 426 cu in (7.0 L) Hemi. A heavy duty suspension system was also standard.
Due partly to rising insurance rates on muscle cars, sales were low. There were fewer than 3,000 units produced in 1971and only 30 cars were equipped with the Hemi engine, which was discontinued after 1971.
For 1972 through 1974, any Road Runner ordered with the optional 440 was renamed Road Runner GTX and included the badging of both previous models.

On the bench today is a Matchbox Jaguar Mk 10 which I got in a mail call from Diecasts4U2C.
The Jaguar Mark 10, later renamed the 420G, was British manufacturer Jaguar's top-of-the-range saloon car for a decade, from 1961 to 1970. This model introduced the ever so slightly forward leaning front fascia and grille, flanked by four prominent round headlights - a look that defined most of Jaguar's saloons for nearly half a century, until 2009. Introduced within a year of Jaguar's iconic E-Type sportscar, the Mark 10 copied much of the E-Type's technology, innovations and specs. It sported four-wheel disc brakes and an independent rear suspension, unheard of for early 1960s British luxury cars. With a 3.8 litre, triple carburettor engine, the Mark 10 had a top speed of 120 mph and capable handling at less than half the price of the contemporary Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud.
Despite press acclaim from both sides of the Atlantic and Jaguar's hopes to appeal to heads of state, diplomats, and film stars, primarily aimed at the large, affluent U.S. market, the Mark X never achieved its sales targets. The rarest now is the Mark X with the 4.2 L engine as only 5,137 were built and few are known to survive.

The M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced. This 325i was in the 1985-1993 production line. The 3 Series 325 had a 2.5 litre engine with about 180 hp. The M3 version sported a 3.2 litre, rated at 250 hp. The M line has different suspension, some different body pieces and a few different interior pieces. It was first available in the US in 1995.

On the bench today is a Matchbox 1951 Hudson Hornet. What a great era of automotive design, when cars were pieces of art. This is my entry to the Diecast International Builders Cars of the ‘50s invitational.
According to my Wiki research, the Hudson Hornet was manufactured by Hudson Motor Car Company of Detroit, Michigan from 1951 until 1954, when Nash-Kelvinator and Hudson merged to form American Motors Corporation (AMC). Hudson automobiles continued to be marketed under the Hudson brand name through the 1957 model year.
The first-generation Hudson Hornets featured a functional "step-down" design with a dropped floor pan and a chassis with a lower center of gravity than contemporary vehicles that helped the car handle well - an advantage for racing too.

On the bench today is a Matchbox Opel Diplomat. According to my Wiki research, it’s a luxury car manufactured by Opel from 1964 to 1977. Opel's top-ranging models were traditionally the Admiral and Kapitän, introduced in 1938 and 1937 respectively. In 1964 these models were joined, in the so-called "KAD" (Kapitän, Admiral, Diplomat) range, by the new Opel Diplomat. In most respects the three were badge-engineered versions of the same vehicle.
The Diplomat was available with 2.6-litre or 2.8-litre in-line six-cylinder gas engines (100 or 125 hp). A deluxe Diplomat Coupé, with a 4.6 litre V8-Chevrolet small-block 327 teamed with a two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission producing 190 hp was also available from 1965 to 1967 in limited numbers. Only 347 Coupés were built by coachbuilder Karmann and cost DM 25,500 (as much as seven Volkswagen Beetles).
Guinness is an Irish dry stout that originated in the brewery of Arthur Guinness at St. James's Gate, Dublin, Ireland, in 1759. On December 31,1759 he signed a 9,000 year lease at £45 per annum for the unused brewery. Ten years later Guinness exported his first shipment of six-and-a-half barrels to Great Britain.
Guinness & Co. Brewery makes almost €2 billion worth of beer annually.
The Guinness Storehouse is a tourist attraction at St. James's Gate Brewery in Dublin, Ireland. Since opening in 2000, it has received over 20 million visitors.

On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Hot Wheels Buick Riviera.
The Riviera is a personal luxury car that was marketed by Buick from 1963 to 1999. The name Riviera, Italian for coastline, was chosen to evoke the allure and affluence of the French Riviera.
In the late 1950s, GM lacked a personal luxury car to compete with the highly successful Ford Thunderbird. To fill this gap, an experimental Cadillac design was created, dubbed the "LaSalle" after a former GM luxury marque. When Cadillac passed on the venture in 1960 the project was thrown open for competition by the other GM Divisions. Buick, desperate to revive its flagging sales, won the competition.
My casting is a first generation 1964 model, but since its inception the Riviera has undergone 8 generations of technical and styling changes.

This is the exciting recap of the #MLCPorsche4 invitational. Thanks to all of my friends who participated in my YouTube channel’s fourth annual all-Porsche invitational. I hope you all had great fun creating the customs as well as watching all the videos. Here’s the full lineup. Each one of these little cars is a gift, as the theme again this year is Pay It Forward.
If you haven’t done so yet, please take a moment to edit your video’s title to include #MLCPorsche4 to be added to an auto generated playlist. Thanks!
Be sure to visit as many of the videos as you can and get all subbed up. Making new connections and spreading the love is what it's all about.
Congratulations to all the draw prize winners. You’ve got one week to contact me at MapleLeafCustoms@icloud.com with international shipping details.
See you next year at #MLCPorsche5.

On the bench today is a 1:55 scale Siku Porsche 911 Turbo Cabrio. This project is a kind of throw back to my early Maple Leaf restorations. I started with a bag of 50 cars from an eBay haul and tried to fix them up.
This is my entry to #MLCPorsche4 to mark my YouTube channel’s 4th anniversary and to celebrate all things Porsche. My personal thanks to each of you who follow my channel and interact with me through the comments. And special thanks to 50+ talented builders who are participating in this year’s build off. The key theme is Pay it Forward. Each custom Porsche is going to be given away by its creator.
This looks like a circa 1987 Porsche, which would make it a 930 - the turbocharged variant of the 911, manufactured between 1975 and 1989. It was the top-of-the-line 911 model for its entire production duration and, at the time of its introduction, was the fastest production car available in Germany.
The 930 proved very fast but also very demanding to drive, and due to its short wheelbase and rear engine layout, was prone to oversteer. Under certain conditions, applying too much throttle would cause the heavy rear end of the car to swing outward like a pendulum, causing the car to spin out. To this day, Porsche corporate employees who drive 911 Turbo models for testing or for business reasons are mandated to undergo "Turbo Training"
In a 1999 poll to determine the Car of the Century, the 911 was fifth. It is one of two in the top five that had remained continuously in production (the original Beetle remained in production until 2003). The one millionth example was manufactured in May 2017 and is in the company's permanent collection.

On the bench today is a 1:60 scale Matchbox Superfast Woosh-N-Push which was produced from 1972 to 1976. My first thought was to do a straight restoration on it, but I just don’t like the way Matchbox did it. So an updated paint job and decal application, as well as some new wheels are in the mix. I think it’ll be an improvement.

On the bench today is a Matchbox VW Delivery Van. This is my entry to the Super Huge Ginormous Build Off Part 2, hosted by Paul at Diecast Graveyard. The theme this time is your favourite candy or sweet.
Thanks to Schotty’s Diecast in Luxembourg for sending me this casting.
The Tobler chocolate company was founded in 1899 by cousins Emil Baumann and Theodor Tobler in Bern, taking advantage of the popularity of the recently invented milk chocolate. In 1908, Baumann created the unique recipe consisting of milk chocolate, white nougat, almonds, and honey. Tobler came up with the triangular shape which is commonly believed to be inspired by the Matterhorn - Switzerland’s most famous mountain. The outline of a bear, the symbol of Bern, is depicted on a silhouette of the Matterhorn on the modern Toblerone packaging. The product's name is a combination of Tobler's name and the Italian word torrone (a type of nougat).
Fun fact: The Toblerone brand was trademarked in 1909, at the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property in Bern. Albert Einstein, who was working at the institute as a clerk at the time, might well have been involved in the patenting.

On the bench today is a Hot Wheels Rigor Motor. It’s a fantasy casting, and I don’t often work with those, but this is perfect for a theme build.
According to Hot Wheels Wiki, the Rigor Motor was originally packaged as part of the Fright Cars series of Wal-Mart Exclusive Cars on single cards, in 2006.
Mardis Gras is known by many names around the world. In Brazil it’s Carnival, and here in Switzerland it’s Fasnacht. Basel Fasnacht dates back to 1376, making it 648 years old this February. They’re all connected with the Easter dates, which can fluctuate annually.

On the bench today is a Hot Wheels Classic ’57 T-Bird.
According to the Hot Wheels fandom site, the Classic '57 T-Bird, designed by Ira Gilford, debuted in the 1969 Hot Wheels line-up. They were packaged with a Hong Kong or U.S.A. metal collector's button. It came with either white or dark brown interior colours. There was at least one casting change to the base during its release - the fuel tank that protrudes down from the rear of the base is longer/bigger on some versions. In 2012 the Classic '57 T-Bird was re-tooled for the Red Line Club Membership.
I got this casting in a mail call from Paul at Diecast Graveyard, along with all the tools and supplies that one would need to do a redline restoration.
