Cosmic Shadow M 6x6 | 1:38.40 Single + Written Review stevecuber1 2018-08-18 | Review:Long story short, this cube has exploded on me twice due to a defect, but the cube itself is really good.Initially, this cube was very slow out of the box as expected from all Cosmic puzzles. The break in period felt quite long due to the amount of time it takes to solve the puzzle as well as the fact that it was quite hard to turn at the beginning. However, after about 50 solves, the cube started to get really good. The outer layers remind me of the speed and the slight bumpiness of the Wushuang 5x5. The inner layers, especially the middle layer, is slower, but is very smooth and has a controllable feeling. Lock ups and occasional catches do exist since the reverse corner cutting is not great as can be seen in the video. However, the magnets definitely helps reduce lockups by making the puzzle more stable. As for the Cosmic service, I honestly have nothing to complain about. All the layers feel evenly lubed and once broken in, feels super nice to turn. The tensions feel even on all sides and set just right. The only thing I've done to this cube was break it in and I have pretty much broken all my PBs with this cube.The problem with the cube started after doing a couple hundred more solves. I noticed that one of the sides started to feel lose and found that the screw had loosened by itself. I re-tightened it, but after couple more solves, it completely exploded. The entire center attached to the core with the screw came off. I reassembled the cube (not fun) and made sure the side that the center came off was screwed tightly. However even with tight tensions, the cube exploded again a couple solves later with the same center attached to the core coming off. I suspect that the problem has to do with a defect on the screw but I'm not too sure.Overall, the cube is really good and I would've used this as my main if not for this problem, but it's unfortunate that this problem exists. Really happy with the win and for crushing my old 8.97 average, but I definitely feel like I can beat this next time.I also beat my old 6.68 single with a 6.54 full-step in the first round, but it wasn't filmed unfortunately. Basically, I lost interest in cubing in early 2016 for a few reasons. The main reason was that I wasn't really improving much or making progress in cubing, and just lost the motivation. On top of that, school hit me and I didn't really find a lot of time to cube, and I decided to focus on other things. Despite this, I never fully stopped cubing and did pick up the cube once in a while. However, I got back into cubing a few months ago again and seriously started practicing. Currently, I know I'm not really the fastest anymore, but I've been improving a lot and I'm definitely faster than the the time when I stopped cubing. Looking at this average, I can tell that I have a ton of room for improvement (those pauses!) Hopefully, I'll start to put up some more videos in the future.
