You can experience this view in person by staying at the North Shore Waimea Bay oceanfront home: airbnb.ca/rooms/23639
This view overlooks the mouth of iconic Waimea Bay, the site of the famous big wave surfing competition: the Eddie Aikau. The period spanning from November to February stands out as the optimal window for witnessing large waves. During these months, the waves can reach staggering heights, occasionally exceeding thirty feet, posing a significant risk even for seasoned surfers. It's crucial to always pay attention to warning signs. In contrast, from May to September, the waves mellow out, cultivating a more serene environment suitable for surfing and swimming.
-------------
More about the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Surfing Competition:
The Eddie holds a preeminent status within the realm of surfing, akin to the Super Bowl of the sport. The Eddie Big Wave Invitational pays homage to both the contemporary generation of big-wave surfers and their predecessors. The saga of Eddie Aikau holds significant cultural importance in Hawaii. Eddie Aikau was not only a championship athlete but also a waterman and a dedicated family man known for his genuine concern for others. Notably, he served as the first lifeguard at Waimea Bay and was the inaugural lifeguard for the entire North Shore, where he courageously rescued over 500 people throughout his career. Eddie fearlessly ventured into waves that often exceeded 30 feet when no one else dared. Preserving his legacy is of utmost importance, as it serves to inspire the forthcoming generation to live in the spirit of Eddie.

The initial storm and swell were not perfectly directed towards Hawaii, as the storm is currently strongest northeast of the islands, focusing the main impact of the swell on the West Coast. Despite this, substantial wind and seas occurred in proximity to the islands, and even a 'glancing blow' of the swell is expected to produce significant surf.

Semeru, the highest volcano on Java (3,676m 12,060ft), and one of its most active, lies at the southern end of a volcanic massif extending north to the Tengger caldera. The steep-sided volcano, also referred to as Mahameru (Great Mountain), rises above coastal plains to the south. Gunung Semeru was constructed south of the overlapping Ajek-ajek and Jambangan calderas. A line of lake-filled maars was constructed along a N-S trend cutting through the summit, and cinder cones and lava domes occupy the eastern and NE flanks. Summit topography is complicated by the shifting of craters from NW to SE. Frequent 19th and 20th century eruptions were dominated by small-to-moderate explosions from the summit crater, with occasional lava flows and larger explosive eruptions accompanied by pyroclastic flows that have reached the lower flanks of the volcano.
This volcano is located within the Bromo Tengger Semeru-Arjuno, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve property.

Volcán Popocatépetl, whose name is the Aztec word for smoking mountain, rises 70 km SE of Mexico City to form North America's 2nd-highest volcano. The glacier-clad stratovolcano contains a steep-walled, 400 x 600 m wide crater. The generally symmetrical volcano is modified by the sharp-peaked Ventorrillo on the NW, a remnant of an earlier volcano. At least three previous major cones were destroyed by gravitational failure during the Pleistocene, producing massive debris-avalanche deposits covering broad areas to the south. The modern volcano was constructed south of the late-Pleistocene to Holocene El Fraile cone. Three major Plinian eruptions, the most recent of which took place about 800 CE, have occurred since the mid-Holocene, accompanied by pyroclastic flows and voluminous lahars that swept basins below the volcano. Frequent historical eruptions, first recorded in Aztec codices, have occurred since Pre-Columbian time.

Iztaccíhuatl is a dormant volcanic located on the border between the State of Mexico and Puebla within Izta-Popo Zoquiapan National Park. It is the nation's third highest, after Pico de Orizaba at 5,636 m (18,491 ft), and Popocatépetl at 5,426 m (17,802 ft).
The name "Iztaccíhuatl" is Nahuatl for "White woman", reflecting the four individual snow-capped peaks which depict the head, chest, knees and feet of a sleeping female when seen from east or west. Iztaccíhuatl is to the north of its twin Popocatépetl, to which it is connected by the high altitude Paso de Cortés. Depending on atmospheric conditions Iztaccíhuatl is visible much of the year from Mexico City some 70 km (43 mi) to the northwest. The first recorded ascent was made in 1889, though archaeological evidence suggests the Aztecs and previous cultures climbed it previously. It is the lowest peak containing permanent snow and glaciers in Mexico.

The Geminids are a prolific meteor shower caused by the object 3200 Phaethon, which is thought to be a Palladian asteroid with a "rock comet" orbit. This would make the Geminids, together with the Quadrantids, the only major meteor showers not originating from a comet. The meteors from this shower are slow moving, can be seen in December and usually peak around December 4–16, with the date of highest intensity being the morning of December 14. Recent showers have seen 120–160 meteors per hour under optimal conditions, generally around 02:00 to 03:00 local time. Geminids were first observed in 1862, much more recently than other showers such as the Perseids (36 AD) and Leonids (902 AD).
Based on data from the Parker Solar Probe, a 2023 study proposed that the Geminids may have been formed by the catastrophic breakup of a comet that formed asteroids 2005 UD and 1999 YC in addition to Phaethon.

Referred to as the most impeccably shaped volcanic cone globally due to its symmetrical form, it boasts a base with a circumference of 80 miles (130 km) and ascends to an elevation of 8,077 feet (2,462 meters).
Symmetrical Mayon, which rises above the Albay Gulf NW of Legazpi City, is the most active volcano of the Philippines. The steep upper slopes are capped by a small summit crater. Recorded eruptions since 1616 CE range from Strombolian to basaltic Plinian, with cyclical activity beginning with basaltic eruptions, followed by longer term andesitic lava flows. Eruptions occur predominately from the central conduit and have also produced lava flows that travel far down the flanks. Pyroclastic flows and mudflows have commonly swept down many of the approximately 40 ravines that radiate from the summit and have often damaged populated lowland areas. A violent eruption in 1814 killed more than 1,200 people and devastated several towns.
This view is looking north towards Mayon. The camera is approximately 14km south (SSE) of the volcano in the city of Legazpi. To the east is the gulf of Abay.
