Rafe KelleyWelcome back to the Evolve Move Play podcast!
In this episode Jordan Hall and I explore the role of embodiment in addressing the meta crisis facing humanity.
Jordan shares his background in the tech industry and the origins of the Game B project, which seeks to understand and respond to the interconnected challenges of our time. The discussion delves into the relationship between individuals and institutions, the evolution of paradigmatic thinking, and the shift from a world of rhythm to one of tone.
We examine the tension between truth-first and beauty-first approaches to reality, and how this relates to the historical relationship between science and religion. We also discuss the concept of faith as an embodied capacity, situated within a stack of communication, understanding, hope, and love.
Our conversation highlights the importance of embodied practices in developing virtue, cultivating faith, and navigating the complexities of the meta crisis. Perhaps one key to moving forward is to avoid panic and to love more deeply, emphasizing the transformative power of embodiment in personal and collective growth.

In today’s conversation, Kyle Koch and I delve into the transformative power of embodied movement practices and deep nature connection. As senior coaches and facilitators of Evolve Move Play, we share our journeys from feeling uninspired in the modern world to discovering profound meaning and connection through parkour, natural movement, and ancestral skills.
Kyle and I discuss the integral role of physical practices in shaping one's character, and how the reciprocal opening that occurs between self, others, and the environment is fundamental to falling in love with life itself. We explore the limitations of fitness modalities born in isolation from nature, and how the immersive "Ecology of Practices" we've developed invites practitioners into a more holistic and integrated way of being.
We also tackle some of the challenges facing today's younger generation, from the attention-hijacking algorithms of social media to the scarcity of free play and embodied role models. Kyle and I make a compelling case for getting this work out to more adults, who can then pass it on to the children in their lives, and help restore a more grounded and nourishing way of relating to self and world.
For anyone yearning for deeper connection and a movement practice that touches the soul, this episode is an inspiring call to step outside the box and embrace our full human potential.

Today we’re joined by Joseph Bartz
Joseph was born and raised in Germany, to an artistic family of writers, musicians and people working in the theater. He went through the Waldorf method of schooling, which outside of the usual subjects also puts a lot of value into crafting, music and dancing.
At 13 years old, Joseph started delving into various disciplines of physical practice. Starting with martial arts and strength training, his interests expanded to include parkour and aspects of natural movement such as tree climbing and doing most things barefoot. He also became interested in wilderness training and primitive skills, which he has been learning with Uwe Belz.
Joseph would take his passion for these physical practices and build a career around them, he has taught countless workshops and helped thousands of students deepen their knowledge and relationship to movement.
Today he’s joining us to talk about a variety of topics, including the deep meaning that can be obtained through developing a robust ecology of practices, and how the process of building a skillful body should not only enhance your physical abilities, but your strength of character as well.
I really enjoyed having Joseph on the show, and hopefully we’ll be able to continue our chat in the near future. If you also enjoy the conversation, be sure to support the channel with a like, subscribe, and share.

We had an in-depth reflection on our recent retreats – those beautiful moments of connection, the challenges, and the profound growth we all witnessed.
We dove deep into the concept of Attunement within Movement. What does it mean? How does it resonate with our innate nature and our connection to the world? 🌲
We also explored some truly fascinating territories such as:
The intriguing differences between embodiment & enlightenment. What does it truly mean to be in our bodies in this age of disconnection?
The concept of opponent processing and how it shapes our growth and perception.
Our personal journeys of navigating fears, pushing boundaries, and finding that delicate balance. How do we continue progressing in our practices while at the same time comfortably pushing our boundaries.
And most importantly, WHY DOES ANY OF THIS MATTER? Why strive to be embodied in a world that often feels so out of touch?
If you're on a journey of movement, self-discovery, or simply curious about the deeper layers of human experience, I invite you to join our conversation. It's a raw, fun, insightful, and deeply personal dive into the ecology of our movement journey. Come evolve with us! 💪🌍

We have become unmoored us from our traditional systems of meaning making. We have become unmoored from the family, the nation, faith traditions and wisdom practices. We have become unmoored from the natural world and even our very bodies.
This is part of a long term historical process and meaning making is a perennial problem for humans. We are "the being whose being is in question" to quote heidegger.
The problem of meaning though has reached a new height. Due to the rapid changes wrought by our technological revolutions, by late stage capitalism and by the globalization of the world.
This meaning crisis is having devastating results. Despite greater widespread affluence then ever in human history, we are suffering.
We have growing rates of depression, anxiety, loneliness and suicide. 15 percent of Americans now report no close friends. We are weaker, more obese, less skillful and more unhealthy then any previous generation. Our mental health is falsely shored by massive use of pharmaceuticals, papering over the deeper problems.
We out of touch. Literally out of touch, as in lacking in the forms of sensory connection with the world around us that gives us much of our meaning.
We can easily go through life rarely touching anything aside from our phones, laptops, cars and homes and the fast food wrappers.
We are out of touch with the soil of the earth, with the rocks and trees, with the water, with the rest of the life world. We are out of touch with each other loneliness and disconnected. We out of touch even within ourselves.
When we invest our selves in the facsimile of intimacy that is direct message & posting on social media. Or even texts with "freinds" we don't actual bother to speak to or see in person. We are losing touch with the full depth of human connection.
When we spend all our time on smartphones, consuming social media we are losing touch with the sensorial world beyond the screen. The world that to this day remains the vast majority of all that there is.
Parkour may seem like a strange place to begin looking for a remedy to the meaning crisis. Still I am convinced it is actually one of the most profound places we can start.
Parkour a is radical act of reconnecting to the physical world. Doing parkour we map the potential meanings in the relationship between our body and the world. Meanings that were always out there to be discovered but which we have become blind to.
Exploratory locomotor play is a fundamental place to begin getting back in touch with the world.
That far more the any specific athletic achievement should be understood as the great promise that parkour offers.
