Stefanie Hurtado My second Camino Frances, from SJPP to Finisterre, in honor of my Dad ❤️ This was a very personal journey for me—I was hesitant to share beyond friends and family, because it feels so vulnerable. I am a professional videographer in NYC, but this is unlike anything I've ever made before 😅 I left behind my professional equipment---everything was filmed on my iphone or small sony camera. I walked alone this time, with just a 34 liter backpack and Chacos sandals.

The people in this video are SO precious to me. The lessons they shared have been invaluable. I hope you find value in them, too. I hope their spirits shine through. Van Life Camping in Alaska

Stefanie Hurtado 2025-05-14 | This is a really special one to me! This is my week long road trip through Alaska with my cousin/best friend Steven. It was Steven's dream for years to live on the road and explore as much as he could, spending his time out in nature, hiking, kayaking, and experiencing new things. He finally achieved his dream in the summer of 2023, traveling from Florida to Canada, through Newfoundland, Quebec, and Ontario to Mexico, and all the way up to Alaska. He surprised me with tickets to fly me out to spend a week with him (as a birthday present last summer).

Why the NYC Marathon is the best day of the year in the city

Jenica and I had the best time capturing the event and soaking up truly the most positive, loving, inspiring energy we've ever experienced in the city. NYC Day Trip ✨ Hiking Cold Spring with my Camino bestie :)

Stefanie Hurtado 2025-01-04 | My Camino bestie from Slovenia (LARA) came to visit me for a week in December. I took her to one of my favorite hiking spots outside of the city, just north of Cold Spring. It's about an hour and a half drive from my apartment, and ALSO easily accessible by train! Totally worth the trip :)

For anyone grieving the loss of a parent

Stefanie Hurtado 2024-09-27 | Here I am, bearing my stupid soul on the internet again. I often make a video and then immediately wonder wtf I was thinking. I know this is way too vulnerable for my own good, and I’m going to want to make this video private in like a week, but for some reason, I was literally aching to express these feelings at the time. Here’s to hoping it helps just one person feel less alone. Whether you’re in the midst of losing a loved one, or are missing someone you lost 20 years ago, your feelings are sooooo so valid. Grief never goes away. The hole that person left in your life can never be perfectly filled. And sometimes, as things in life change, it’ll re-open so wide it hurts like day 1.

But the good news is: missing someone THAT badly means they were really really special. And you were really really lucky that you had them for the time you did, because not everyone gets that kind of love. I know that doesn’t make you feel better when the loss is new, because you’re probably still angry, but it will over time.
I had the best dad. I was soooo lucky. The fact that it hurts this bad all these years later is proof of that. He raised the bar for my whole life. I’m annoyingly incapable of accepting anything less than what he taught me I deserve.Which I guess is his way of looking after me forever.

Post-Camino Blues in Porto, Portugal

Stefanie Hurtado 2023-07-30 | The Post-Camino blues are REAL. After 35 days of such a simple, peaceful, meaningful way of life, going back to the real world feels sad & scary 🫠 I knew I would need a transition period between leaving Santiago de Compostela and flying back to New York City. So I planned a 5 day trip to Porto, Portugal. Two of my best friends, Chelsea and Danna offered to join me. And in Porto, we spontaneously formed a little Camino crew!

Porto is a great place to visit after your Camino. It's a step into "normal" life, without being totally removed from the Camino, as many pilgrims take the opportunity to enjoy Porto for a few days :) It's SUCH a beautiful city. I'm so grateful I got to experience it with my besties.

Walking the Camino had been my Dad's biggest dream for years, and something he planned to do when he retired. Because he wasn't able to, I walked the Camino for him and put his name on the certificate of completion in Santiago de Compostela. This trip was not for fun or adventure--it was for grieving. It was about doing something for him, when nothing else could be done. While we still had an incredible time, I'd really like to walk the Camino again in a more positive state of mind.

If you have the chance to make this journey, definitely do it! The wine alone is worth it :)

Our trip through Aix-en-Provence and Bonnieux in the Luberon Valley in the South of France. One of the most beautiful places I've ever been.

We rented a room in a house with the kindest, most lovable family in Bonnieux. They showed us the vegetables and chickens on their farm. I took photos for their business. We watched every single sunset from the overlook at the top of the hill and drank lots of wine.

We visited Bonnieux in August 2018, on our way to walk the Camino de Santiago across Spain. This is why we're wearing Chacos and basic cotton clothing :) haha major tourist vibes!

Paris 2018

In the late summer/fall of 2018, we backpacked around Europe for 3 months. This is our quick trip to Paris. Since it was his first time, we did alllll the touristy things. I'm especially grateful we got to see Notre-Dame in all its glory just months before the devastating fire in 2019.

Dia de los Muertos in Mexico City

Grieving in Ohio

Stefanie Hurtado 2018-01-04 | I shot this video just a couple months after my dad died. My boyfriend and I packed up our stuff, left New York, and spent the winter in Ohio with my mom. I actually made this video with the intention of testing out the Panasonic GH5, to see if I wanted to make it my new go-to camera. What came out ended up being a pretty accurate representation of my grief felt like in that moment.

Shot in 1080p 96fps variable frame rate with a Voigtlander 17.5mm f/0.95.

NYC Elopement - Central Park

This is a wedding film I made in April, for this lovely couple from Australia, Ashley and Leon, who came to New York for their elopement. I made this for free as an audition for one of the companies I work for now :)

I had so much fun spending time with this incredibly sweet couple on their special day in NYC. It was rainy and quite cold still, but all of these typically crowded areas of the city were totally empty and quiet. This is my first season working full-time as a videographer and I feel so lucky I get to capture love for a living. I pinch myself all the time. Best job ever.

Brooklyn, NYC Apartment Tour

This is a 3rd story walk up railroad style apartment in Buswick, Brooklyn. The building was constructed in 1910. It's a relatively safe neighborhood, with easy access to Manhattan.

One Second a Day in January

Stefanie Hurtado 2017-03-01 | I wanted to challenge myself to pick up my camera every single day, starting on the 1st of the New Year. I'd seen '1 second a day for a year' videos and wondered if I had the discipline to do a project that large and long-lasting. So I figured I would start with one month.

I didn't do quite as well as I'd hoped, so half of these clips were shot vertically on my iPhone (for Instagram stories) and are therefore the worst possible resolution.

But I managed to scrounge up video from every day and that is a small success to me. It's cool to see your life squeezed down into such tiny moments that make up a much bigger picture.

And so, I think I'll continue for the rest of the year.

NYC blizzard of 2016

Stefanie Hurtado 2016-03-14 | Just a couple of Florida kids experiencing their first blizzard in NYC :)

David and I both grew up in central Florida, and had never experienced a snow storm before this historic Blizzard Jonas of 2016. It was the second biggest blizzard to ever hit NYC, missing the record by just 1/10 of an inch! Central Park recorded 26.8 inches.

David was scheduled to work in the morning so I was a bit worried, not knowing what conditions would be like, only hearing from the news (and my worried mom) that there were wind gusts of 50 mph.

They let him off early as busses shut down at noon, cars were banned from the roads at 2pm, and most subways were shut down by 4pm. We had fun roaming the empty roads that afternoon and evening, taking advantage of perspectives we could only get in the middle of a blizzard :)

West Coast Slow Ride

We spent two weeks at a pet sitting gig in Silicon Valley, then about a month at an off the grid farm in Southern Oregon, just before settling down in Portland for a while.

Great American Road Trip

Stefanie Hurtado 2015-10-22 | In June of 2014, a friend from college invited me along for the kind of journey I've dreamt about my whole life --- a spontaneous, creative, open-ended, beatnik-esque road trip all across America.

I joined my 5 van-mates in Charlotte, NC. We drove up to NYC, down to New Orleans, and then across to the west, where I fell in love with all the little corners of America I'd never seen.

It took us about 4 months and $5,000 combined into one joint bank account. We stayed with friends and family along the way when we could, but mostly relied on couchsurfing and the hospitality of perfect strangers.
