Frame is based on C-Beam profile, and we have added strong HGH 15 Linear Rails for the linear motion on all axes. The long travel needed on Y to machine full sheets has been accomplished with a new designed MOD1 Rack and Pinon Drive. The Motors are connected to the Pinon via high precision Planetary Gear Boxes. This together with SFU1204 Ball Screws on X and Z axis has resulted in a really strong and capable machine.
The machine is available as kit with footprint of 1500x2750. This result in a work area of 1250x2615x140 large enough to leave room for e.g., vertical operation, a rotary table or Automatic Tool Change (ATC)
In this video we introduce the machine and go through the detailed assembly proces.

Apart from the Linear Guides and Gantry plate we have added two Disk Springs to the tensioning of the ACME rod. We have experienced that if the set screw in the Tensioning nut hit the side of the ACME thread it can tilt resulting in uneven pressure on the Thrust Bearing. Adding two disk springs - like () - this issue can be eliminated.

I needed to go around the Chuck two times. First time I hatched one direction and the second at 90dg. After 2nd round all rust was gone and a slight polish with some oil made the chuck look as new.
Very happy with the result.
Parameters used 10% Power (30W laser), 500mm/s, 20kHz
The work area was marked by V-craved lines all the around and we made a pattern of lines 50mm apart for easy alignment of materials. At all intersections we made Ø7mm holes with a counter sink Ø11 for M5 wood inserts. They make mounting materials very easy.

The sofa is made in Teak and I'm using mainly CNC to produce it.
As the project lasted over several years I changed CAD software during the project. I started out using Sketchup and later used Fusion360.
You can find the Sketchup model here: 3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/4e098741-0dfa-4a1a-9fe5-c83cb011ca00/Garden-Sofa

The goal was to make a capable, affordable and easy to build CNC machine for makers around the world to use in their workshop.
We have tried to promote the makerCARVER project on Kickstarter with this video. Some support was given but not to the level of our goal.
We do however plan to launch it anyhow as we do believe this will be a great machine for most newcomers to the CNC world.
Easy to build and very capable.
Check out our project at Openbuilds here: openbuilds.com/builds/maker-carver.9157
Parts and Kit will be available at https://makersupplies.dk
Since last we have made new laser cut Gantry Plates in Black Painted Steel and mounted Limit Switches and Cable Management.
makerCARVER is a remix of the ShapeOko, X-Carve and Stainless OX that we plan to launch as a kit this fall.
All files will be shared - follow the build on: https://forum.makersupplies.dk/listing/maker-carver/

I have for some weeks worked on a new type of linear actuator based on the 40x40 profile. This profile has a big internal cross shaped opening. It is big enough to have an ACME rod/nut assembly inside, so the design idea is to use this to make a mechanical assembly.

Polycarbonate is not an easy material to mill so the shop had to optimize on the clamping power to avoid cracks in the finished product.
The local manufacturing allow that we can sell them at a more affordable price compared to the ones we import from the US.
You can find them as multi packs here: http://makersupplies.dk/wheels/266-wheels-xtreme-v-wheel-bundle-multi-pack.html
In essence you have two options for making such a big machine and keep it sturdy.
1) You can use dual Y-rails to get a 40x80 profile. This allow you to keep the inner plate (Hepta plate) and you can mount double wheels.
2) The more cost effective solution is to skip the inner plate and fix the Y-rail to the spoil board along the length. This is the solution Peter selected.
In this video I take a walk around the machine (I did actually walk on it !) and we see it in action.
You can source the Stainless OX Kit at https://makersupplies.dk
Proximity switches and diodes can be sourced here: makersupplies.dk
A Pendant is very useful when you position the CNC router at the start of a job. I allows you to move YXZ axis in increments e.g. 1mm, 0,1mm and 0,01mm.

In this video I experiment with the four switches to see how the work and find some resistor combinations that will work as pull down to give a signal of approx. 5V that fit most Break out Boards.
FOR use as limit switch I would recommend to use one of the NO switches. I do not think it matters what you choose NPN or PNP as the signal direction can be set in the software (e.g. Mach3).

If you have a limited number of inputs you may want to use two switches in parallel e.g. for front and back on the same axis. In this case you must use a resistor of approx half.
In the video I try to find resistors resulting in an output of ca 5V. The following was found: Single Sw 12V 10k; 24V 3.3k; 36V 2.2k. Two Sw in parallel: 12V 4.7k; 24V 1.5k and 36V 1k
Most Makers need to be able to Solder Wires to Wires or Wires to Connectors when Building Machines like CNC or 3D Printers. In this Video I show how I'm doing this and the Tolls I use. Some practice is needed to get a good result.

In this video I test the system and try to change some driver parameters using the RS232 interface and a all Chinese program.
I designed this very simple hanger in Fusion. In the video I show the design process I used from drawing in CAD and making the tool path in CAM to the milling on the homemade Stainless OX CNC and finishing the part.
