In difficult times such as these, we believe it’s more important than ever not to lose focus on our sustainability ambitions. We need to work even harder to keep moving in the right direction.
This year, we decreased our climate footprint by 22% in absolute terms compared to baseline FY16. We’ve also updated our climate goals and accelerated our climate actions in line with the 1.5°C trajectory and the SBTi Net-Zero Standard.
We’ve taken many other actions during the year, including, for the first time, using bio-based glue at an IKEA Industry board factory. As glue represents approximately 5% of the total IKEA climate footprint, moving from fossil-based to bio-based glue is key to reaching our overall climate goal. We’ve also pioneered a new technology that enables fibreboard recyclability.
We’ve reduced the amount of plastic packaging in consumer goods by approximately 47% and decreased the total plastic packaging (including consumer packs, multipacks, unit loads and handling materials) by approximately 44% compared with FY21.
We’ve continued our work contributing to a fair and equal society, including launching our updated People Strategy to strengthen our direction and ambition for equality, diversity, and inclusion.
You can read about our progress in the IKEA Sustainability and Climate Reports FY23.Life at Home Report 2023 – A decade of discoveryIKEA2024-01-10 | At its best, home is more than just a physical space.
