DIY Picnic Dress - With Pattern - Garden Party Gown
updated
In this video I will be sharing my process for making the Ladle Dress. To make the Ladle Dress I used my new PDF pattern, which can be found in my Etsy shop. The Pattern creates a short babydoll style dress. It features a yoke, short button placket, a large round collar, and puffed sleeves. This dress is loose fitting, with the gathers sitting above the bust. Lace can be added to the collar and sleeves, and you can choose between buttons or snaps for the center front of the dress.
In this video I share three versions of the Ladle Dress; a red, white and pink version. This video mainly showcases the sewing process for making the Red version of the Ladle Dress. Both the red and white versions are made in size 36 for a 36-37inch bust. The pink version is made in size 46 and is shown on a mannequin with a 47.5 inch bust.
For the red version I used:
3 meters of red cotton fabric that is 100 cm wide
4 meters of natural eyelet lace that is 5 cm wide (200cm for the collar and 200cm for the sleeves)
60 x 40 cm piece of fusible interfacing for the collar
3 small buttons each about 10mm wide
115cm of red bias tape that is 12.7mm wide to finish the sleeves
60 cm of elastic that is 7mm wide for the sleeves
Red thread
For the white version I used:
3 meters of white cotton fabric that is 100 cm wide
4 meters of white eyelet lace that is 8 cm wide (220cm for the collar and 180cm for the sleeves)
60 x 40 cm piece of fusible interfacing for the collar
4 small buttons each about 10mm wide
115cm of white bias tape that is 12.7mm wide to finish the sleeves
60 cm of elastic that is 7mm wide for the sleeves
White thread
For the pink version I used:
3 meters of pink cotton fabric that is 100 cm wide
60 x 40 cm piece of fusible interfacing for the collar
3 buttons each about 17mm wide
75 cm of elastic that is 7mm wide for the sleeves
Thread
You may other materials for your dress, like tailor's chalk, disappearing ink pen, scotch tape, ruler, scissors, pinking, additional lace or trim, snaps ect.
The Ladle Pattern comes in sizes 28 to 46, and is intended for full bust measurements of 28 to 46 inches. However, because this dress is very loose fitting, and because the gathering for the dress sits above the bust a range of measurements can fit each size.

This tail was inspired by a Koi Fish, and embraces the beauty of asymmetry and vivid color. It is reminiscent of the beautiful Sanke Koi, which has a white base and red and black markings. The tail is a swimmable mermaid tail which is meant to be worn with a monofin. The tail is designed by FinFolk Productions and made with 1mm thick 4 way stretch scuba knit. The fluke is a modified Mythic Fluke, and there were several fin options offered when pre-ordering. My tail features the double hip fins at the top of the tail.
This tail was apart of the 2024 Spring line-up.

For this dress I made a slight modification to the center front of my bodice pattern to create that gathered look. I used my Mix and Match Regency dress pattern and then used the ‘slash and spread’ method to stretch out the center front of my bodice to make room for the gathers. I continued this full gathered look by using 3 widths of fabric for the skirt of my dress and adding elastic to the bottom edges of my puff sleeves.
If you’re interested in making a dress like this for yourself, you can check out the pattern I used, which is in my Etsy shop as a downloadable PDF. The pattern is called “Mix and Match Regency Dress Pattern”. I also have a Plus Size version of the pattern available.

For my inspiration I took some screenshots of this dress and gave it a close look. The dress bodice that Sophie wears has one dart on either side and a low square neckline with piping around the edge. The sleeves are short with gathers at the top and are fitted to the arm with a center pleat. Sophie’s sleeves remind me of 80’s party dresses, and so I opted to make a puff sleeve instead for my dress. The skirt looks floor length with several pleats starting around the side seam of the bodice.
My goal was to use Sophie’s lake scene dress as inspiration for making my own dress. I knew my fabric and final dress would not be a perfect 1 to 1 recreation of her dress. However, I think my final dress is very pretty and something a Bridgerton would wear. I do think this dress is very pretty and comfortable, with all the same charm as Sophie’s dress.

For my inspiration I took some screenshots from Season 1 of Bridgerton of the light blue dress. The dress bodice that Daphne wears has two darts on either side and a low scooped neckline. The sleeves are short and fitted to the arm with a hint of gathering at the top. There is piping detailing around the sleeve’s bottom edge and the neckline edge. The skirt looks floor length with a few deep pleats at the very center back of the bodice.
My goal was to recreate this dress as closely as possible. However, I did make the skirt of my dress longer and fuller. I wanted to have a full and dramatic skirt with very deep and a glamorous train. I think my end result is not a perfect recreation of Daphne’s dress, but is does the same charm. I do have a few nitpicks, but overall I am happy with my dress and think it looks pretty when worn.

I show the process from beginning to end, including printing and assembling the pattern, cutting everything out, and sewing and finishing details. At the end of the video I will show the set worn. I paired the dress and cloak with simple flats, a sparkly tiara and pointed ears. My hope is that it looks simple but elegant, perfect for High Fae.
I really enjoyed making this matching dress and cloak. I was inspired when I found the fabric at my local shop. I bought the whole roll and knew I wanted to make something magical. As I was planning, cutting and sewing I felt that this was a set Feyre might wear at Night Court.

In this video I will be sharing my process for making a Cloak. To make the cloak I used my new PDF pattern, which can find in my Etsy shop. The Pattern creates a Cloak, which drops over the shoulders and fastens at the neck. This Cloak pattern features an oversized hood and a slight train extension in the back. The edges are finished with either self-made Binding or purchased Bias Tape.
The cloak I make is from a silver-blue Jacquard fabric and is inspired by the cloak Daphne Bridgerton wears in Season 1 of Bridgerton. However, I think my cloak pairs well with other dresses for a different looks. For example you could make a Cloak to pair with romantic gowns, historically inspired outfits, fantasy outfits, ren faire or even cosplay. I have also used the Cloak pattern to make a navy blue star cloak and paired it with a matching dress. You can find the video for the Star Cloak and Dress here: youtu.be/4w3FnUkGzTM
Materials I used for the Cloak:
-7 meters of silver-blue poly Jacquard fabric with a width of about 112cm
-10 meters of self made binding made from same fabric
-Matching thread
-Hook and eye
To make a Cloak for yourself, you may need:
-6-7 meters of fabric depending on the fabric's width
-3-4 packages of double fold bias tape about 12 mm wide, or about 1 additional meter of fabric to make your own binding / double fold bias tape
-Matching Thread
-Closure for neck, like a hook and eye, frog, clasp, or button and loop
You may also want tailor's chalk, and scotch tape to assemble pattern
The pattern for the cloak is rather large, 63 pages, but after assembling the PDF pages into the pattern the construction of the Cloak itself is rather simple and straightforward. I do recommend paying close attention when cutting the pattern pieces out, that way you can make sure you have left and right sides.
This pattern comes in 3 sizes: S, M, and L. Each labeled size can fit a range of measurements. In this video I have made two Cloaks using the pattern size labeled 'M'. Both cloaks are shown worn by myself, and my mannequin. I have have an approximate shoulder circumference measurement of 40 - 41 inches (102-106cm) and a bust circumference of about 37 inches (93cm). My Mannequin has approximate shoulder circumference measurement of 48 - 49 inches (122-124cm) and a bust circumference of about 47.5 inches (121cm).
The Cloak pattern labeled S has a max shoulder circumference measurement of 52 in or 132cm.
The Cloak pattern labeled M has a max shoulder circumference measurement of 55 in or 140cm.
The Cloak pattern labeled S has a max shoulder circumference measurement of 58 in or 148cm.

In this video I will be sharing my process for making a Coif, which is a historical close fitting cap. The coif was worn by many different people through the middles ages and up to the 17th century. You could make a coif with a more historical approach for a time period look, or you could make one for a fantasy inspired ensemble, or as a fashion forward and unique accessory. I will be detailing the sewing process for two coifs. One will be finished with a self made binding and the second will be finished with store-bought bias tape. I will also show several different coifs worn in a variety of ways.
The coif pattern comes together rather simply, so you could put one together quickly as an outfit accessory. The coif is also great for using up scrap fabric, I was able to squeeze a couple different coifs from pieces of fabric I had leftover from previous projects. If you're interested in making a coif please check out my Downloadable PDF pattern which is available in my Etsy shop.

In this video I will be sharing my process for creating a Red Dress perfect for a Ren Faire, using my new Damsel Dress Pattern! The dress features a pointed front basque waist, puffed sleeves that can be worn off the shoulder, and a skirt that could be cut into 3 lengths, above the knee, tea length and floor length. The pattern can be found as a downloadable PDF in my Etsy Shop - KittyJBerry.

This bag was apart of the By the Pool LV collection which was released for the summer. The bag is cotton denim which has been woven with the Monogram pattern and then bleached and stone washed for a worn, vintage feel. The bag is complete with handles and detachable crossbody strap in a aged cowhide leather.
I purchased this bag from Komehyo, a popular Japanese second hand shop. I've really enjoyed second hand shopping in Japan, and hope to find many other treasures second hand. The service at Komehyo was excellent, and I recommend you check them out if you're ever in Japan and considering a second hand item.
Even though this bag was purchased second hand, I was very excited to share the unboxing with you. Thank you all for watching.
