Then, I programmed my own synths matching Bo's original, and embarked on my own cover version of the song.
The only thing left for me to do was an 8-bit style cover/remix. And while we're at it, let's make it Jeff's battle theme, because why not?
I DO NOT own the rights to the original Bezos tracks, which were written and recorded by Bo Burnham for his special, INSIDE. This video is an affectionate cover of one of my favorite jams of 2021.

This is what I came up with. All original, exported tonight - and yes, that is my (heavily processed) voice.
Lyrics:
I lost my way In your sea Will you break? Or will you carry me?
-IanPull Up The Ladder [Original Music] [WIP Composition]I Cant Stop Making Noise2021-10-30 | In 2020, I purchased a Hybrid Special by Michael Kelly Guitars to benefit Prism Analog, a nonprofit recording studio in my city (I was also on their board at the time). I didn't actually pick it up for several months (this was early pandemic, after all) - but when I did, I got inspired, and before long I had recorded two demos using it. This song - "Pull Up The Ladder" - is one of those demos.
This is pretty typical of where I tend to "park" my in-progress music after my initial flurry of energy and excitement has passed: the arrangement is more or less complete, the mixing is pretty decent, and the vocals/lyrics are limited. In this case, I wrote a single stanza that I liked quite a bit, and then sang it in two different ways to see how it sat in both the verse and the chorus.
I wanted to jump On the edge of the bed Slipping and losing control I wanted to stumble And split my head Like a brick through a window
The lyrics are still rough, but the concept is this: It often feels (to me, at least) that "bootstraps-minded" people stress the importance of freedom and personal responsibility over EVERYTHING else in life. That a person forced to make the best of a bad situation, is really a person who has chosen to live that life instead of reaching for success. That someone who cannot afford health insurance is "choosing risk of their own free will". But in many cases, it also feels like the people who came before them are pulling up the ladder - taking away the opportunity to rise as high as they did.
Anyway, this is unfinished - but I hope you guys enjoy it. -IanClose Your Eyes [Original Recording] by Ian MarquisI Cant Stop Making Noise2021-08-31 | #newwave #dancemusic #edm
The lights are down and I'm lying on my back with my headphones on. The music is loud. It makes my head throb. "Close Your Eyes" is a track I worked on for several years, across several different releases. I first recorded it in 2010 for my album "The Shivers" - but I knew the mix just wasn't right. Then, I came back to it in 2014 when I was doing my "Primitive Mirrors" EP as Marianas. Finally, two years after that, I got it right. I hope you guys enjoy it.
Lyrics:
Baby, don't you know I've gone away But you're all wrapped Around these gears Dreaming that tomorrow is today
And honey, do you think The world's gone by? But don't you look at me You're only growing Older 'til you die
Close your eyes You're only growing older Close your eyes You're only growing older Close your eyes
Baby, don't you know The world's okay But you're all stuck Inside these tears Wishin' that your life Would slip away
And honey, do you think You've seen the sky? But you're the same as me You're only growing Older 'til you die
Close your eyes You're only growing older 'Til you die You're only growing older Close your eyes

Hey guys! Today, I’m taking a look at five reasons I think Bezos by @boburnham is so catchy. This is my first time creating this type of video, and I know I have a long ways to go - so thank you in advance for your patience and willingness to stick with me.
Timeline (key bits, quick links, happy skips):
00:00 - Come on Jeff, Get 'Em! 00:02 - False Intro 00:19 - Ramblings 00:33 - Start of the video proper 00:42 - Reason #1: The first time you hear it, it’s completely unexpected. 01:59 - Reason #2: It’s short, so it can’t overstay its welcome. 03:16 - Reason #3: It uses a minimal arrangement, so each part stands out. 05:28 - Reason #4: So, about the solo. 07:04 - Reason #5: Bo’s vocal performance is unique. 09:10 - So, why is this song special? 09:28 - Musical Interlude
Thanks for listening, guys. I’ll catch you on the next upload. -IanBezos: Nuclear Acapella Mix [Remix of Bo Burnham Original by Ian Marquis]I Cant Stop Making Noise2021-08-24 | #bezos #inside #boburnham #blueorigin #remix #acapella #justforfun
Jeff and his two friends (anyone want to name them?) are at the mic and ready to scorch. Their voices are a bit scrambled by the machine, but they don't care - GET EM!

I write music for headphone listeners, because that's the way I like to listen, too. I like to bounce around the stereo field - sometimes lazily and drifty-like, other times rapid-fire and stuttery.
Anyway, I like this quick piece. Maybe you do, too. Or, maybe you're just here for the visuals. Either way, enjoy.
IanMove Along [Original Recording] by Ian MarquisI Cant Stop Making Noise2021-08-16 | #rock #experimental #trippy #newmusic
Here's another original song, with an interesting video concept as well (that was quite a bit of fun to put together). This track, "Move Along", was an experiment in writing something completely different - something more abstract, more crisp, and more hard-edged than my usual.
Lyrics:
Gray. You're cold as you walk away. Slice clean and see. Thousands of parts, no room for beauty.
Pray. Your feet trace another day. The miles and the pasture and sky. A promise of life without room for goodbye.
Cold, shiver now. Cold, shiver down.
There is no one here to see. Move along now, move along now. There is no one here to see. Move along now, carefully.
Thousands of parts...
Cold, shiver now. Cold, shiver down.
Gray. The lights of the cars are gray. They light up the stars today. Gray. The lights of the cars are gray. They light up the stars today. The lights are...
Cold, shiver now. Cold, shiver down.
There is no one...
There is no one here to see. Move along now, move along now. There is no one here to see. Move along now, carefully.
There is no one here to see. Move along now, move along now. There is no one here to see. Move along now, carefully.

Jeffrey Bezos Jeffrey Bezos Jeffrey Bezos Oh!One-Way Glass [Original Recording] by Ian MarquisI Cant Stop Making Noise2021-08-11 | It's original music time, guys.
This song, "One-Way Glass", is probably the most intricate, multifaceted, ambitious track I've ever written, recorded, or produced. 100% of what you hear on this track is me (including the "female" backing vocals, which are pitched up and formant-shifted). I originally released this song on my 2016 album "Legacy Drivers".
Lyrics:
I just want to disappear No one in the window, dear Cut my hair and douse the flame No one's gonna know my name
We run around down city streets Around the corners Where the edges of our memories meet I watch us fade into the black Like a house on fire Porch lights alive like wire And I want to plate the skies Silver like the space behind my (eyes)
I just want to disappear No one in the window, dear Cut my hair and douse the flame No one's gonna know my name
Tonight
I run around inside my head Rewinding scenery And the holes in every word you said I hear your voice in every crack Like a whip and wire Stage lights and bootleg fire And I want to paint my lies Silver like the space behind my (eyes)
I just want to disappear No one in the window, dear Cut my hair and douse the flame No one's gonna know my name
Oh, I just want to disappear No one in the window, dear Cut my hair and douse the flame No one's gonna know my name Oh, I
I run around inside my head Inside my head
I just want to disappear No one in the window, dear Cut my hair and douse the flame No knows me No one knows my name
I hear your voice inside my head
I just want to disappear No one in the window, dear Cut my hair and douse the flame No one's gonna know my name
Background: One night in Brewer, Maine, I was jamming with a friend: two guys, two guitars, two amps, and the drum machine from a Digitech RP200A multi-effects pedal. I had brought an idea I was pretty into at the time, and we riffed on it for about an hour. It was sounding good. I recorded the jam on my phone and set it aside. Eventually (two years later, to be exact), that session became "One-Way Glass" - the track you're listening to.

The first time I ever sat down at a computer to make music, I immediately gravitated towards bouncing, dancing, hard-panned notes. I've been a headphone listener for most of my life, and I just can't get enough of the way a sparkly mix grabs hold of the wheel and takes you for a ride.
Anyway, this track is currently called "Stack 'Em Up". Maybe this is all it will ever be...or maybe not. I'm not sure a song is ever truly "done".
But whatever it is, I hope you enjoy it.Polo G - Toxic [ORIGINAL 8-BIT COVER/REMIX]I Cant Stop Making Noise2021-07-16 | I forgot to set the export duration on my first upload, so the song got cut off. This version fixes it.
I DO NOT own the rights to Toxic by Polo G. I created this 8-bit cover after hearing the original track and getting it stuck in my head.
I think it makes a pretty decent retro chill jam, if you ask me.Bezos II (1 Hour Mix) - Bo Burnham: YOU DID IT! CONGRATULATIONS!I Cant Stop Making Noise2021-07-15 | I DO NOT own the rights to Bezos I or Bezos II by Bo Burnham, or the images of Jeff Bezos and Bo Burnham. I simply loved the music from Bo's latest special, INSIDE, and wanted a longer mix of the Bezos tracks for my own listening pleasure.
After creating my initial extended mix that combined both Bezos I and II, I decided that Bezos II deserved more love than I gave it. 60 minutes of "You did it"? Let's do it.
More of my music: ianmarquis.bandcamp.com/album/legacy-driversSong for a Town That Never Existed [Found Music] [American Red Cross Baby Scale Music] [JRPG]I Cant Stop Making Noise2021-07-13 | I bought an American Red Cross baby scale at a thrift store when my daughter was born. It has a “Music” button. Many infant and children’s toys have awful, grating music, but this little scale plays a tune that sounds like a lost 8-bit era JRPG soundtrack. A song for a town that never was. Anyway, some day, I know the scale will stop working. I wanted to memorialize the song before that happens. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do.
More of my music: ianmarquis.bandcamp.com/album/legacy-driversHeroes Flee [ORIGINAL COMPOSITION] [Mediumpiece]I Cant Stop Making Noise2021-06-30 | I wrote this song, "Heroes Flee", for my recent EP, "We Never Get To Sleep". It's probably unfinished, but maybe not - I can never really tell. The lyrics are intentionally buried, because they're in the mix more for texture than content.

After creating my initial extended mix, I went all-in and decided to do a significantly longer one. 35 minutes of Bezos? Good for the soul.

When I sat down to write Hormones, I really didn't know what direction I was heading (then again, I rarely do) - but I knew I wanted to make something overwhelmingly swimmy, washy, and bendy. Something that sounded absolutely huge. Something that played with my heart and my head.

Jeffrey Bezos Jeffrey Bezos Jeffrey Bezos Oh!The Dream Will Never Die - Tales of Phantasia (Studio Version of Theme from Cartridge)I Cant Stop Making Noise2016-01-16 | Tales of Phantasia was one of the only SFC / SNES games to feature music with a vocal track (the theme song, "The Dream will Never Die / Yume Wa Owaranai"). Of course, the version on the cartridge was pretty crude - but it was still an amazing accomplishment for the time.
More than a decade ago, I'd stumbled across a studio version of the arrangement on the cartridge, featuring what sounds like an identical vocal track - and a much-expanded backing track including electric guitar and backing vocals. However, I lost the file, and since then all I've been able to find on YouTube is the version with the piano intro that was used in the OVA / PSX (not a bad version by any means, but not the one I was looking for).
Well, I finally found it, and I want to make it easier for others to find. Enjoy.
(Note, I do not own anything related to this video. However, I have been unable to find this recording anywhere - for sale or for streaming - and am making it available simply so that others can enjoy one of my favorite childhood OSTs).Ian Marquis - Underground - Faces From The StaticI Cant Stop Making Noise2013-12-06 | Listen to (and buy, if you like) the song directly from me at http://ianmarquismusic.com/track/underground
You broke your foot And spent the summer in a cage If fifteen screws can make a man Three or four eradicate an age
He dug a hole I was amazed He burned the corners of a page It's hard to breathe, we looked around But I knew there was treasure hidden
Underground Your head, cause you don't wanna be found Your feet immobile in the stone Scared of crowds, afraid to be alone Now you don't dare to make a sound
He whispers like a drought Can't pay a thousand men To figure out the message When the words are such a mess
Underground Your head, cause you don't wanna be found Your feet immobile in the stone Scared of crowds, afraid to be alone Now you don't dare to make a sound
Ativan Concrete shoes and Ritalin We slept in
