With this backdrop I wanted to show both belonging and loss. The video starts of with children, namely Pink Floyds children, then moving into the memories of a lost time when family life was good. The final part of the video consist of people disappearing from their respective context. Ending with our man Syd, disappearing all together.
Its a personal piece to me, including images of my father, me and my father and eventually my father and grandfather.

This backdrop is a piece I call "Mural". Its a slow scrolling "Walk" through several Syd Barrett related moments which I designed for Men on the Border. It was originally used as a part of the 30 minute pre-show animation. For the live P-Floyd live performance I retrofitted the animation with various sections of liquid light footage.

The video backdrops was cut into three sections. One for the intro, including four prerecorded PINGS to sync with band. These was not present in this video. The first major section, up until the "Seagull" part, consist of a canvas based on Storm Thorgersons cover. The middle, specific for this show, is a conversation with "Hal 9000". The third and final part is more reliant on filmed visuals.

David Gilmour "Rattle that lock" tour perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London, in benefit of the Teenage Cancer Trust. As the final chorus of Comfortably numb is sung and the second solo is set to begin, David Gilmour plays a part of the Purple Rain solo - A tribute to Prince who had died only three days prior.
A full video was uploaded to Youtube and that was subsequently rereleased on the official Pink Floyd Youtube channel. And that is where the fun stops. Because 1) That video is pretty crappy qualitywise. Muddy footage, static angle. 2) The audio is subpar.
Don't ask me why I care. But I do. So here's what I did. I found two alternate sources for audio which sound better. Sorted a bit of the audio spectrum and balancing to boost it. Generally add bass. Then I downloaded virtually all clips I could from that night, including an unrelated clip that my then wife recorded when DG was back in 2016 and I made this video.
I doubt it will replace the "official" version. Enjoy! To me this section is the highlight of The Wall album.
My personal audio mix from 2012 is a reimagining of the song in the same vein as Roger Waters dueting himself singning Mother. My idea was to mix together 1980-1981 Roger with 1990-Roger. Why 1990-Roger? Because of that wonderful guitar solo in the middle. In many ways this is, and has been my prefered version of Nobody Home for the past 14 years.
Now you get to hear it!
The two sources are "Is there anybody out there?" and the first CD version of "The Wall Live in Berlin". The later remix messed up the sound of the solo.

“The drawing on the left of the poem shows me dancing and waving my arms in the air… the band playing in the background is ‘Jokers Wild’. This is the band that David Gilmour was playing at that time… at the bottom left of the drawing are Syd’s initials RKB.” - VB.
Continuing a somewhat bi-yearly tradition of making "faux" Barrett songs, the artist on the border, also performing as "Montana Musical Experiements Project" made this tribute to young Viv and Roger.

A cover performance by the Montana Musical Experiments Project.I worked for Nick Masons Saucerful of Secrets! (My animated backdrops for the 2022 Echoes tour)Artist on the Border2022-05-22 | The 2022 Echoes tour is on the road, traversing the European continent and, in due time, the US to. For three years I've been hanging on to a tiny secret. I got two of my animations approved by Nick and the band for use in their stage show. The titular Saucerful of Secrets animated cover, and my Relics animation. The story is short can concise. I wrote an email to the band, presenting myself, suggesting that they'd look good with my Saucerful animation and they agreed to bring it onstage. So for a few minutes every night of that tour, you get to see a bit of the Artist on the border.
Both videos were rerendered in full HD and reedited with some new cuts. For Saucer I added some more depth to parts of the animation. A new centerpiece with Nick instead of David and overall eased out the flow of the animation.
For Relics I included a brand new animation of the peacock wheel on the middle of the "ship" as well as a new handdrawn logo substituting Pink Floyd for Nick Mason. Finally, a brief cameo from the man himself as an animated character.

It won't mean all that much to you. But it means a lot to me.
You have by now seen the black and white HD restoration I created and released a couple of months back and believe it or not, the two versions was in production, more or less simultaniously. This version however proved to be much dodgier than the plain black and white. First and foremost, AI coloration is still in its infancy. There are several tools available, purchased as well as free. But the outcome isn't always predictable. I sided, after testing a few, with HOTPOT.AI which at the time was free and showed great results. The overall color vibrancy was absolutely astounding. Problem though was the lack of automation, and as time progressed, limitations implemented to the tool itself. Each frame of the 3350 required frames (music performance) had to be uploaded individually, downloaded again and individually named. You can guess the rest.
(The reason the intro and outro are missing are....colours aren't right on parts of the outro. And that damn copy of "Piper" Dick is holding is not being interpreted correctly and hours of tracking a color photo of the same cover onto the footage doesn't work).
But besides that the outcome it pretty descent wouldn't you say?
The techy stuff: Frame adjustment from stretched 16:9 to proper 4:3 image ratio. Frame size upscaled to 1440x1080 (1080p) Frame processed with added black and white definitions. Frame sharpened using Topaz Sharpen AI software Frame colorized using Hotpot.ai Frame(s) interpolated back into 60 fps video sequence using FlowFrames. ...and that excludes hand sorting the duplicate frames out of original video sequence.
I started the project in February 2021. It ended on the 30th of december 2021. I'm not doing this again, like this.

Do I love this one or what! That little bridge, or as Jon Carin called it, the original Mother demo is by far one of the sweetest solos by....well...not David Gilmour. Performed by Snowy White this particular mix was only released stateside on the 8-track version of the "Animals" album. Later on a version would also be released by Snowy White.
A special version of the song was made for the 8-track cartridge release. The 8-track format featured a loop-play function where the end of the recording looped back to the beginning, allowing an album to play continuously without having to turn over the cartridge. To exploit this feature, the special 8-track version of the song linked part 2 and part 1 with a guitar solo, performed by Snowy White, who would later play the guitar solo in live performances on the 1977 In the Flesh Tour. The complete version of the song, including the instrumental bridge, was re-released on White's Goldtop compilation album in 1995. (Wikipedia)
From this point of view, I, the artist on the border, set out to mock myself up a version with drums and bass reintroduced. This is not really Floyd performing. The drums are, to the best of my knowledge, performed by Nick Mason, but for a different song, and with a different rhythm signature. The bass is me on a keyboard pretending to be Roger Waters (grunts and spitting included) and I also added a secondary rotary organ to pad out the sound. So....its Faux Floyd - A pretty fair forgery.
It's also a chance for me to have a look at my old Animals cover animation. Sure it's not as witty but I really like the sweeping feel of this massive HD cover image.

During a period spanning all of February through May of 1969, the band worked on songs for More, a film by french director Barbet Schroeder. The band had a rather short deadline for the More film score, but the movie itself was mostly complete when Pink Floyd set about creating music to accompany the moving images. Nick Mason recalled in his book Inside Out: A Personal History of Pink Floyd that the band “went into a viewing theatre [and] timed the sequences carefully” using a stopwatch. David Gilmour was quoted about the sessions in Miles’ Pink Floyd: The Early Years. “It was eight days to do everything from writing, recording, editing … but everything we did was accepted by the director. He never asked us to redo anything.”
The recording of "Cymbaline" on the album is different from the one in the film (the latter version is heard on a record player in a bedroom). The vocals are a different take, though both versions are sung by David Gilmour.

"The Adventures of PC 49" is a 1949 British crime film about a police constable goes undercover to infiltrate a gang of violent thieves. The film was based on a popular radio series. here were six children's annuals full of stories of PC 49, as well as an annual reprinting of his strips in the Eagle comics. Eagle comics also published the strips of daring space pilot Dan Dare.
For context the lyrics about the Child standing clutching his PC 49 book fits properly with the original Nightmare theme. Better so compare to the "final couplet rhyme".
Roger Waters has said that Cymbaline is "about a nightmare." In fact, it would be incorporated into The Man suite later in 1969 in that context. A great song lyrically and musically, it seems that the nightmare is about being caught up in the music business machine, one of Roger's first songs about this subject. Roger likens the effort of putting together a rhyming lyric for a song to walking a tightrope, while 'the ravens' — those who want to feast off one's success and laugh at one's failure — watch every step hungrily. And when the ravens are 'closing in,' one's manager and agent are only worried about making more money. The lyrics of the third verse are more obscure, yet still striking. Dr. Strange was a popular comics hero at the time due to his mystical abilities rooted in ancient magics (such as the ability to traverse other dimensions and change his size at will), but his relevance to the song is unknown. Perhaps, if Cymbaline is about an actual nightmare, the third verse simply reflects the surreality and free association that occurs in dreams.
The DVD version of the audio soundtrack was processed in several passes using Izotope RXs spectral repair tool. The group made their historic US TV debut with American Bandstand, a show where legendary Dick Clark hosted in the span of four decades. It was seen as a massive gateway for different bands to become popular with the American audiences and was also an ideal opportunity for the artists to run their promotions.
Pink Floyd performed “Apples and Oranges,” the last track written by then-singer Syd Barrett. Unlike their usual abstract lyrics, the song is mainly a feel-good one about a woman shopping for some items.
Inside the live performance, Barrett seemed to turn into an erratic fella, staring blankly at the cameras, but still managing to provide a refined act. But the early signs of his mental illness feared the other members of his group, as they remained focused while still preoccupied about Syd’s actions that would mark the beginning of an end to his career in music.
The performance ended, and Dick Clark managed to chat with them. Perhaps fearing that any stupid questions would correspond to sarcastic answers, the host tried to ask each member one question, and luckily it ended well.
It was broadcast on the ABC network on 18 November, 1967.
TECHNOBABBLE The source footage is from an officially licensed telecine of the 1967 black and white broadcast. The program was permanently shot in color starting on September 9, 1967. Though broadcasting in color first began beyond the November 7th transmission. This has been confirmed by the Dick Clark Company. The source footage was a NTSC telecine utilizing a 3:4:4:4 pulldown. In essence meaning that the 29.97 fps broadcast was recorded on 15 fps stock causing each frame to be was repeated twice, occasionally trice for the duration of the clip. The versions available occasionally also seem to get the aspect ratio wrong. The average image is washed out and in dampened grey tones.
WHAT’S BEEN DONE? A new 15 fps sequence was created by manually removing duplicates. This resulted in 4396 individual frames divided into 40 groups based on contents.

And so forth. Each frame was preprocessed in Photoshop using Actions. This process would restretch to a proper 1080 4:3 format and adding levelling to increase the darkness, making the material appear black and white, as opposed to appearing grey and white.
All frames were subsequently sharpened using Topaz labs AI sharpening. This process will cause some smaller visual artifacts on individual frames. But these are not visible when playing the clip back.
Once the scaling and sharpening has been completed the frames were recompiled using FlowFrames 1.24.6, an open-source software using RIFE/CUDE AI processing to interpolate video sequences. The files are now converted to 60 fps video files.
Note: The process of removing duplicates caused the reassembled original audio to drift by 2 seconds and 36 frames (depending on NTSC frame rate or the new 60 frames per second frame rate). This may have been caused by lost frames or improper calculations on my behalf. I changed the speed of the original audio by .72 percent to compensate for the discrepancy. So in short. Rescaled, color adjusted, AI sharpened, interpolated to 60 fps.

The recording is made up from two different guitar parts spliced together, occasionally jumbled around. The vocals were gradually hammered out over three sessions. For the April fools presentation I added various layers of noise and hiss, added automated and manual wobbles and sped the recording down by 5% - 10%. I know how a bootleg should sound.
The lyrics however come from the poem “A rooftop song in a thunderstorm row missing the point”. The story of that poem was described in detail by Felix Atagong on his Church of Iggy blog.
I would like to commend and thank you all for your comments. The response, even when identifying this as not being Syd, has been very warming. I would also like to applaud your detective skills. Most of the breakdowns I’ve read have been absolutely spot-on. So well done everyone!
And on a by-note: I did have a friend who claimed to have two unheard David Bowie recordings in a vault. And no I never got to hear them!
It’s all Artist on the border (me) and I recorded it.The unknown Syd Barrett recording from 1970 (April fools)Artist on the Border2021-04-01 | In 2001 I befriended a collector of music. A rather strange man who, among other things claimed to own two unreleased David Bowie songs which he stored in a bank vault. When my friend passed away last November, his son contacted me and asked if I would be interested in hearing some of his fathers Syd Barrett tapes. The reel to reel tapes in question had been stored boxed in the attic and they were in pretty messy condition.
The contents were mainly copies of Barretts solo LPs and a few bootlegs. But one of them contained a surprise. A recording of Syd, tentatively from may 1970, performing an acoustic which I have never heard before.
I have very little information to give being that I don't know the lineage nor the source for this recording. So it's up for you all to speculate.
The box had handwriting on it stating plainly "Syd Barrett May 1970". The two other tracks on the tape are Golden Hair and Swan Lee, which both appear to be similar to the versions released on album.No Trust (Music video)Artist on the Border2020-10-16 | “No Trust” was the original epilogue to the 2020 album “It Won’t Change A Thing”. A final reflection on the state of the world as perceived by a man who has fought hard. Recording political music is troublesome because it rarely brings a positive light to the subject matter. The album deals with oppression and facism through which we move collectively from later stage capitalism to post capitalism. “No Trust” begs the question who can you trust, and what does it mean if there is no trust.

Men On The Border, a swedish band with a Syd Barrett flair reached out to me and asked permission to use my animations for their live shows. Being that they are good I agreed with little hesitation. It also jerked a feeling in me, It reminded me of the joy of making my idiosyncratic animated tributes.
How could I resist the option of animating a full show promo? The end result is virtually drenched in late 60s psychedlia.

It is due for digital release on the 1st of April 2020.
Musically it is produced in the vein of Pink Floyd and NIN with a heavy nod towards "The Wall" and "Year Zero". The music is filled with a soundscape of masterful storytelling woven together with emotive and expressive vocalizations. It is like being in the calm of the storm just before all hell breaks loose and you get sucked into the centre of a tornado. Stand up, defy and be the revolution.

I supposed It's called "Rats" at the moment!
This is Syd Barretts Opel animated. I've been experimenting with depth-mapping and false 3D which is the premise for this animation. It may not be much but It's something and it is the third installment in the Barrett series.
This channel keeps attracting viewers and this I am truly greatful for. There are many reasons for my long timeouts between uploads. One of these are the increasing pressure to outdo myself whenever composing an animated Floyd cover. Also I have a lot of open projects at the moment. To name a few: A new version of my Atom Heart Mother is in the works (in 3D). Also "Wish you were here", "Ummagumma" (also 3D), "Pulse" and the reverse side of "A nice Pair". So you can imagine the multitasking going on.
But most importantly I've been quite discouraged by Youtubes Copyright thing-of-a-bob! I am a few short seconds from outrage that my work on, for instance, relics have gone silent due to "copyright infringement". Does anyone here consider that I am truly infringing on the Floyd copyright? Especially when considering that you can find any full Pink Floyd album on Youtube with no hassle? So I am working out a solution for this that I hope will resolve this issue permanently. But you'll have to stay tuned for that.
Finally I was struck by grief when our dear Storm Thorgerson passed earlier this year. A major loss to the industry of music and art.
