My Twitter (warning, I can be political): twitter.com/GregoryLapercheDid Brandon Sanderson Change Publishing? Publishing On Kickstarter!Gregory LaPerche2022-03-15 | What is up everyone! today we will be talking about publishing books and board games on Kickstarter + Brandon Sanderson's announcement. Will this half an effect on publishing? We shall see. I will say that I'm not at all an expert. I'm publishing books, but I am much more knowledgeable about the board game publishing industry over the last 10 years, which has been heavily influenced by Kickstarter.
What do you all think. Will publishing things on Kickstarter be something that is more common on Kickstarter after Sanderson's project? Will future Kickstarter projects be helpful or successful for other authors? What else should I have talked about?
Also, I may have been a bit sloppy when talking about wingspan. clarifications: 1: Wingspan was designed by Elizabeth Hargrave. 2: Wingspan was not published on Kickstarter, but I would argue that Jaime Stegmaier could have published it via Kickstarter if he wanted to, and that led to leverage, which caused traditional distributers to know that they could sell Wingspan at a higher price, as they know there is a market for more experience games with higher component quality. Big distributers like Target likely would not have sold wingspan prior to ~2016 a if it had that high of an MSRP, as they had minimal evidence of a game like this being able to sell.
Time Stamps: 0:00- introduction 0:29- does this effect publishing? 4:00- how this changes publishing. 7:40- Kickstarter board games 14:14- criticisms of boardgame publishing industry 17:38- criticisms of fantasy book publishing. 20:52- conclusion

My Twitter (warning, I can be political): twitter.com/GregoryLapercheOrconomics | The Best Fantasy Satire | Spoiler Free Review | J. Zachary PikeGregory LaPerche2021-08-25 | What is up everyone! This is my Orconomics review by J Zachary Pike. I love this book. The humor is unparalleled by any book I've ever read, though I will admit, I've only read 1 Discworld book. That said, J. Zachary Pike's delivery and brutal sarcasm were what made this book so funny to me. Maybe that is because we are both New Englanders.
In addition to the humor itself being funny, the things being satirized are very interesting. There is a lot of mocking of basic fantasy tropes, and particularly quest fantasy tropes. More impressive is the unique worldbuilding which portrays a medieval fantasy world with a somewhat modern capitalist society rather than the usual feudalist society.
I'm reminded of the time when a bunch of journalists and stand up comedians were on Jeopardy, and many of the stand up comedians shockingly won. Pike is in the same league as the comedians who can knows history and jeopardy like trivia as well as everyone, while also clearly understanding societal structures more than the "experts." He shows his profound societal critiques all while making you laugh. Also, yes, I understand the hilarious irony of me mocking people for doing bad at Jeopardy lol

I really liked the half of Priory of the Orange Tree that was in the west, and did not really like the half in the East. I didn't mention Samantha Shannon's writing in this review, but I thought she did a good job overall with her prose.
