I wish I could've found more games, but between OpenComposite not working with a good chunk of games, Meta's spacewarp bug, it being hard to stress a 4090 at Quest 3 tier resolution, and not many games supporting both OpenVR+OpenXR or even just OpenXR by itself, it was hard but I still tried my best. Probably some of the most numbers I've had to look at and parse in a video before, I think I felt my eyes glazing over a bit by the end of it all. I had to do so many runs to validate results... This was even more exhaustive than the Crystal review, apologies if I let any minor errors slip through.
DFR's one of the most exciting things I've seen in virtual reality and man do I wish for it to be mainstream. Really hoping it catches on for some native support!
9/21/2023 EDIT:
For Pimax's DFR, it was discovered today that at some point recently Pimax screwed up on their UI and that the "Maximum" setting for Foveated Rendering is actually the LEAST aggressive setting, having swapped places with what should be the least aggressive(Minimum), where as what's labeled as the lowest setting is actually the most aggressive one. So these benchmarks were actually done with the lowest setting. Did some brief testing and the gains, in most cases, aren't too different but there's some instances where upwards of an extra +10-15%(Over the current foveated rendering numbers) can be seen between the least and most aggressive setting. This does, however, make DFR more noticeable under certain situations on the highest setting. I might recommend "balanced" as a general "set it and forget it" setting for most games if you don't wanna change it per game.
Pimax is aware of the issue. Will update this comment when it has been fixed. Will also likely be doing an updated video.

This was also WITH a top mounted gunstock which should be a worst case for the tracking. But no it was pretty good. I absolutely, 100% could not have possibly done this prior to the update, believe me, I tried.
Video may look a bit stretched since I had to stretch it to fit the youtube shorts aspect ratio.
Consider this a little sneak peak of my coming benchmark video.

Really impressive stuff here. I'd say Space Engine feels like kind of a best case scenario for the local dimming, compared to some other games. Still impressive generally and the local dimming is nice.
TTL is a pain in the ass for dark shots and distant objects though. Also the poly lenses don't see quite as good for TTL.

This is a beta test and so certain things are a WIP and subject to be improved on, this is merely a video covering my impressions at the start of the beta and I'll see how the Crystal shapes up over the course of it. I may do a little update revisiting certain things in 2 weeks before my final indepth review after the NDA expires in around 3 weeks and some stuff is worked on.
Also the audio clipping is Nvidia broadcast's fault. Still also tuning the mic for optimal quality, shockingly good though.
There are some awkward cuts around the video as this was largely unscripted and I wanted to keep this under 30 minutes but had a lot to cover.
Despite being part of the beta, I still did pay for my own unit, I didn't get this for free. I did have some discounts unrelated to the beta program, such as the streamer coupon code and Pimaxian discount, but this was still a hefty and costly purchase more expensive than an entire Index kit.
Will answer some questions in the comments too but there're certain things I can't talk about yet!
Also I didn't take some TTL of the dark scenes because they were honestly so good I feel like a monitor screenshot is closer to it than the TTL I could take on my S22 ultra. It doesn't deal with dim scenes well and makes it look worse than it is. Working on figuring out settings.

Kind of experimenting a bit with how I want to do full playthroughs of games like this and would love people's thoughts on how it is, since I've mostly done one offs or games which easily break into short chunks and missions, like Project Wingman. There's a chunk of cuts here because I am the kind of person who will almost always do a bunch of exploring in whatever game I can and that sometimes to a lot of dead air without much happening, so to speak, that could be boring to watch and I also want to still keep the videos from hitting like 45 minutes long while still making some progress in covering the story in a game like RE8. Hope it doesn't feel too choppy though. If people would LIKE to see some of that stuff though, I can still show it. Also going for a little bit longer, less edited style for these, given the length, but still trying to fit some stuff in now and again.

I got numerous requests for more 4090 VR content, so after how successful my video looking at it vs the 3090 TI was, and the several requests to bench VRChat, I decided to give it a go and benchmarked 12 games on the Pimax 8k X, the highest res consumer HMD on the market to truly stress it. It holds up quite well.
