The grinding room was going to have a theme, but there was no point in adding one since the moment you walk around the room, Professor Pascals theme would interrupt. It was originally going to have an industrial parkour section, but it was cut and instead now goes straight to the boss level. (The pistons in the room are a leftover of the original parkouring idea.)")
