A week later this aircraft was ferried by Lockheed civilians to Lockheed to begin the M-model upgrade which includes new CF6 engines. Takeoff roll was around 1,800 feet yes 1,800 feet. This lot of engines has been deemed excess are awaiting transport to the scrap yard where they will be scrapped for their metals. There are only 5 C5s left in the fleet that are powered by the TF39 engines. These 5 A models are set to retire by August of 2017. The rest of the C5 fleet have been upgraded to the CF6 engines making them M-models.
