An unsaid implication that “you can be cured like me”.
I’m not here to tell you that. I’m here to tell you the opposite. You can be broken like me and still put one foot in front of the other to get through those tough times.
One of the most discouraging things I’ve experienced in my decade of dealing with mental health struggles, self harm and suicidal ideation is the realization that when I’m spiralling I also have to deal with reality that “I’m not better”.
What if “getting better” isn’t the goal? What if the goal is just trying to make those bad days a little less bad. That your self loathing doesn’t turn into suicidal thoughts. That your self harm turns into a hard training session to have experience pain without experiencing harm.
If you’re frustrated that you’re not better, you’re not alone - so am I.
