De Lima told them to make sure they get up in time for school, to brush their teeth before bed matter how tired they are, not to make jokes that offend others, and to always ask questions in class about things they don't understand. He emphasized that even though he is a comedian he never wants to hurt anyone with his humor. He told the kids that mean humor is bullying and urged them never to bully.

First Damien girl to sing at Stan Sheriff Center Pat Bigold 2014-02-16 | Damien Memorial School sophomore Sandra Rivad became the first Damien girl to sing the National Anthem and Hawaii Pono'i before a game at the Stan Sheriff Center on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014. Her performance preceded the University of Hawaii Wahine basketball game against Cal State Fullerton. Rivard is a member of the Damien music ministry and the school's hula halau. She plays the ukelele and piano. She is a member of the class of 2016, which will be Damien's first coed graduating class.
Highlights of HBA at Damien game - Jan. 25 Pat Bigold 2014-01-26 | Damien Memorial School got 12 points from Jaylen Layco (#5) to beat Hawaii Baptist Academy, 34-20, at Damien and move into a 4-way tie Saturday for first place with HBA, St. Francis and University High. All are 5-2. There is no shot clock in ILH basketball and both Damien and HBA took advantage of that in a first half of stalling that ended with Damien leading, 5-0.HBA held the ball for more than 7 minutes in the first quarter and Damien held for about the same amount of time in the second quarter.Layco got the only hoop of the first quarter after Kapi'ina King stole the ball for Damien in the closing seconds. Students have fun with The Bard at St. Francis School Pat Bigold 2014-01-25 | Eleventh grader Hulita Drake had no expectation she'd win but her Falstaff (from "Henry IV") was just too good for the judges to ignore.Drake won a preliminary of the 2014 English Speaking Union's Shakespearean Competition at St. Francis School on Friday afternoon and now finds herself moving on to the state finals at the University of Hawaii on Feb. 15. The winner of the state contest will compete in the national Shakespearean finals at Lincoln Center in New York City in April.Six boys and two girls entered the St. Francis competition and were judged on factors like expression, understanding of their play, and clarity of speech. They each had to choose a monologue no longer than 20 lines.Second place went to 2013 school champion Anthony DiTucci, a senior, for his performance from "Hamlet," and third went to Samantha Garcia, another senior, for her Mistress Page from "The Merry Wives of Windsor."It was a serious competition but varsity wrestler Conor Medeiros (4th clip) had a lot of fun with his interpretation of Puck from "Midsummer Night's Dream." Help Damien Feed Tacloban - November 16, 2013 Pat Bigold 2013-11-17 | Damien Memorial School, led by the Filipino majority senior class, conducted a four-hour drive-through collection of goods for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan on Nov. 16, 2013. The students took in nearly 5,000 cans, nearly $2,500 in bills and coins, and about 300 bags of clothing, pots, pans, bowls, and personal hygiene items. They also received a dozen cases of bottled water and 10 bags of rice. The donated items will be shipped for free to the Philippines by Matson Navigation.

The hippo seemed to know that Kiara was talking about him and he looked on intently. Hawaii Baptist Academys 2013 valedictorians Pat Bigold 2013-06-13 | The Hawaii Baptist Academy valedictory speech was delivered by two valedictorians on June 1 at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.Sheldon Arakawa, who will attend UH-Manoa to study biotechnology, and Matthew Johnson, who will travel to Northeastern University in Boston and study scientific research, were chosen co-valedictorians. Rather than delivering separate speeches they took the podium at the same time.They were among 113 graduates, all of them heading to college.HBA was founded in 1949 in surplus WWII Army barracks in Makiki. The school moved to its current Nuuanu Valley location in 1975. The school now enrolls nearly 1,200 students from K to 12.
