callumbalI have written an FAQ about the run/category below!!!
Q: Is this WR? A: This is the fastest completion of Super Monkey Ball Master as of September 15th 2019. This is also the first ever run to break the 15 minute barrier!
Q: How long have you been speedrunning this game? A: Since January 2015.
Q: How many attempts have you done of Master? A: My current splits read 15275 attempts. I think I lost some splits from my old laptop that were at around 12k? I'm honestly not sure. I have also done a few thousand attempts without any splits. Guesstimate is somewhere between 17k and 30k attempts.
Q: Why do you enter and exit the game at the start of the run? A: This is load manipulation. I do it for both Expert 5 and Expert 1. Expert 5 is pre-loaded via practice mode. Expert 1 is pre-loaded via the difficulty selection screen. Combined together they save roughly 1.5 seconds.
Q: Why is there audio stuttering/framedrops in the run? A: I'm not entirely sure, it's either a) the fact I chose to record direct audio from my cap card instead of what I normally do where I play it through my speakers and/or b) I was watching a high-bitrate stream the entire time I played (shoutouts to Sick_Nerd lol).
Q: Will you keep playing? A: I will come back to polish up a few other categories sometime. I have no immediate plans for Master though, maybe if there are new discoveries found in the future I shall return.
Further details: Played on a PAL Wii with a PAL disk. Raw upload of my entire gameplay session - youtube.com/watch?v=lVaw2CvuRS0
THANK YOU to everyone who has supported me through this journey. This is without a doubt the greatest speedrun I have ever done. Sure it's not perfect (looking at you Expert-Extra), but damn am I proud of this. Love you all!

The Pause button reduces lag frames sometimes during level transitions. Because I was mashing, it only applied the turbo speed half of the time, as the other half of the time my finger was off the button. I have changed the time on my run to reflect this. I don't think it even adds up to 3s of difference, but I wanted to be fair.
I really cant be bothered playing this game anymore to try and beat it, so I'm just going to leave it here.

I list further details about the run below:
I had some small mistakes in 1-2, 3-1 and 4-3. Otherwise this was a good run (selecting the wrong card in the first minigame is intentional, as this skips waiting for extra lives to refill when playing a faultless game). It's actually pretty hard to piece together a clean run in this game now, because a) I cant miss any enemies or item pickups, as this messes up my minigame manipulation, and b) I do dozens of precisely timed jumps in combination with letting go of right for a handful of frames throughout each stage. Doing this in certain parts of levels jolts you forward a little bit on the screen. If I happen to be holding a diagonal when I land, I get stunted, thus losing me time. It's also hard to just remember where all these locations are in the level, took a lot of trial and error/tedious memorisation! Doing this saves an average of around 0.5s per level I'd say, presuming I don't stutter step or mistime a lot of them.
My sum of best is a high 12:41, so I guess this is close enough without having to go insane. Certainly an unbeatable time for my strats without going for all those right releases, which I guess was the goal.PROTO DARE .NES Warpless Speedrun in 3:31.683callumbal2019-07-21 | My timing is from last frame of title screen until the period appears in the end text. This beats the current TAS by a couple of seconds.
There's some obvious mistakes here. You can also grind for good luck on all the fire sections and enemies to save more time, as well as playing as if you get perfect patterns for optimal movement. Most screens in the game have 2 different sets of patterns though, so screw doing that!
Played on an original console with original controller, using a PowerPak.Kabuki Quantum Fighter Any% Speedrun in 9:49.533callumbal2019-07-15 | Original console (RGB). Original controller. Played on PowerPak. Twitch VOD - twitch.tv/videos/453311178 I've written a stage-by-stage analysis below! ↓↓↓
1-1: A standard good stage here. 1 Boss: I missed a hit, but did everything else fast. 0.2s timeloss. 2-1: I fell through the ladder towards the end because... reasons. I went for a frame-perfect ladder jump after this to recoup the time and got it. Net timeloss of about a half a second here. 2-2: The biggest timeloss segment in the run. I messed up my jump timing in the water climb section, causing me to get stuck, as well as making my assent a bit slower afterwards. I then got boosted the wrong way from an enemy cause I tried dboosting them too early. Overall, I lost a second here. 2 Boss: Great weapon switching, shot timing and luck. Awesome fight! 3-1: Essentially perfect stage. 299 on the timer in a run is really sick. 3 Boss: Perfect luck, no missed hits. Sweet! 4-1: All damage boosts were perfect and health/ammo collection was optimal. Waiting after shooting before I pick up the ammo is a cool manipulation I found to get the enemy behind to shoot at the perfect time so I can get a clean, stress-free dboost up past the next swing and enemy. Only mistake was a really big swing towards the end of the stage. 4 Boss: Nailed the fastest kill I came up with and had a quick menu after. I shouldn't have walked right once the boss was dead though, as that caused me to take an extra hit from a projectile. Bit silly. 5-1: I had just about enough health to skip the refill from the enemy, which would have netted me 0.3s of timesave, think I just decided to play it safe for this run. Apart from 2 big swings near the end, this was a nice stage. 5-2: The first 2/3s were awesome, no mistakes and played the few random elements really well. Flubbed the ending a bit though, did a huge swing at one point and then right at the top I did a really stupid mistake from nerves where I shorted my very last swing of the stage, resulting in a half a second timeloss. Would have been very close to gold otherwise, so can't complain too much. 5 Boss: I cut a menu out of the run here compared to my previous attempts and do it on the next boss. This is quite a bit trickier, and requires within 1 chip of max, as well as perfect health to work. The upside is it saves a full second!! I played slightly slightly slow to make sure I did everything right, was good though. 6 Boss: I almost completely scuffed this LOL. I shot a bomb way lower than I normally would right before I went into my menu, which I for sure thought meant I'd miss some damage. I instinctively added enough extra ammo to do an additional hit, which put my health DANGEROUSLY low, and fired the remainder off. Turns out all the hits I wanted to connect did, and I put myself in this far more precarious situation for no reason. I only lost a handful of frames scrolling the menu further in the end so it didn't matter. At the very end I had to perfectly read the bosses pattern (you can get loads) to dodge his final shot which would kill me if it connected. Thank god I've practiced what to do in this scenario before and clutched it out no problem!
Overall, this was a mostly clean run with some pretty great luck! Can't ask for much more than being within 6 seconds of my sum of best, especially when I'll always leak a little time to my golds because of varying health/ammo refills between stages.Spider-Man 2: The Sinister Six Easy Speedrun in 14:43.6callumbal2019-05-13 | Very close to the run I want now!
