I've had a great residency out here at Northwest College in Powell, WY. The other day my friends Robert Rumbolz, Elaine DeBuhr and I went out to the Clark River to shoot some video- here's the first, with great audio thanks to Rob.
This is (I hope obviously) about another mountain entirely: Beech Mountain, North Carolina. I sometimes find people singing this one as "going over the mountains," implying a sort of general place. But the story is really specific to the Beech during the Civil War, when going down the back of the mountain into Tennessee meant going over into Union territory.
