This is our second trip out after the expo, and I’ve been ready for this one for a while!
Eight of us, a pile of 4x4s, and a plan that was just loose enough to get interesting, we headed into the Livingstone Public Lands to see how awesome a new area to explore could be.
This was a polished, easy trail. But rough, and at times unpredictable, and half the time you’re just smacked in the face by the beauty out here, peaks and forests and valleys for days.
Racehorse Pass ended up being the spine of the whole trip. It pulled us deeper and deeper into it into that kind of country road that still feels like it could have just been discovered. But before we can get there we needed to attempt to fix a broken wheel stud, and apparently, you can't install one that's (3.281) mm too long, lol thought id get lucky with one I found in the bolt pile.
Somewhere along the way, it stops being about the trucks. You’re out there long enough, pushing through terrain like that, and something shifts. You settle into it. The noise drops off. You start noticing things again.
And then the sun drops behind the peaks, the sky lights up, and suddenly you’re back at campfire, going, stories getting a little louder, someone inevitably trying to call aliens… just good, honest chaos.
That’s the part that sticks.
Not just the terrain, but the people you’re out there with. The kind of trips that turn into something bigger than you expected.
