The music industry’s deceptive ways know no bounds, particularly when it's gotten so bad that the music consuming public just knows to expect it these days. Because these days, what they're getting up to makes payola look wholesome by comparison.
When it comes to how they're doing it, the common denominator is the loopholes granted to them by the internet and the whole host of marketing deviousness that it allows for.
But, this doesn’t come in a singular form. Instead, the digital landscape has enabled a vast array of trickery that would've been inconceivable in the pre internet landscape. Because whether it’s in the way they can coerce their fans to inflate their numbers or simply foisting their music on the public, things are getting really murky as record companies and artists fortunate enough to be in a position to have a captive audience scramble to increase the profit margins.
