Last November, Harrison’s parents were called into his school and told he might be held back because he couldn’t read and wasn’t making academic progress despite being clearly very smart. Even with tutoring twice a week, there was no improvement, and frustration continued to grow.
In January, they visited their eye doctor and shared their concerns. That’s when they were referred to Dr. Graebe for further evaluation. After comprehensive testing, it became clear that Harrison had multiple vision issues that had gone unnoticed. What they once thought was clumsiness turned out to be underlying visual challenges affecting reading, focus, coordination, and confidence.
The vision therapy process required commitment and consistency, with daily home activities and a structured routine. Over time, the rewards became clear. Harrison’s vision improved, reading became easier, focus increased, and his confidence grew. He now enjoys reading, excels in building activities like Legos, and even wants to join sports like soccer.
Academically, the progress has been incredible Harrison recently earned two A’s and two B’s, a huge milestone for him and his family. Most importantly, he can now focus, see the words clearly, and read smoothly without frustration.
His family now strongly recommends vision therapy and believes early screening could help many children who are struggling but simply haven’t been identified yet.
