Tokyo is one of the most important cities on Earth, and Japan knows a massive earthquake could cripple it almost overnight. That’s why the country is preparing a backup plan designed to keep the government, financial system, and economy alive if the capital goes down.
This video explores Japan’s emerging “doomsday protocol,” including plans for a second capital, most likely Osaka, that could take over critical government functions after a catastrophic Nankai Trough earthquake. We examine the enormous economic risk concentrated in Tokyo, from banking and government operations to semiconductor supply chains that the entire world depends on.
