Have you ever made things too complex in an RPG session? Or a campaign? What happened?
If I could give one piece of advice to myself when I was starting to run games, it would be: "Hey, that's way to complicated, homey."
Start simple. Start small. Enjoy the journey of letting things evolve in a tabletop roleplaying game. This is the secret ingredient that can make all RPG session and campaign immediately better in our opinion.
Here are some reasons why:
- It's easy to make things so complicated new players can't jump in without being overwhelmed
- If that neat plot twist is TOO much of a deep cut, you'll be met with confusion, not excitement
- If you start off too complicated, where can you go from there?
- It can be hard to keep up with everything that's going on from session to session as a player and as a Game Master
What about you? What do you think?
