In January 2024, during the volcanic crisis in Grindavík, Iceland, a contractor fell into a newly formed volcanic fissure while working in the evacuated town. Rescue teams launched one of the most difficult recovery operations in Iceland's recent history, using mini-submarines, heavy machinery, and specialized search teams. Despite days and nights of searching under extremely dangerous conditions, the operation was ultimately suspended, and his body was never recovered. Where does this story stand today? Will his family get a decent closure?
