The Macintosh IIsi was launched as a lower-cost alternative in the Macintosh II series. To keep costs down, Apple used more electrolytic capacitors, and the surface-mount electrolytic capacitors from the early 90s are past their expected lifetime. In addition, despite the power supply being made by Sony, the capacitors in it are also known to leak (though I can't help think "cost tweaking" by Apple led Sony to use lower grade capacitors).
And there lies the crux of the problem I'm facing: the power supply is currently irreparable. Specifically, the daughterboard in the power supply has too much corrosion to repair, and needs to be replaced. Folks are working on a replica PCB for this daughterboard, so I'm not going to scrap the original parts just yet. But I would like to be able to continue troubleshooting the logic board, which is going to require something more than a Iici power supply*...
That's why I ordered some PCBs from a major PCB manufacturer (they're not sponsoring the project or stream, so I am going to decline to name them). This PCB should allow me to mount an AC to 12VDC power supply and a PicoPSU inside the original IIsi power supply case. I won't have all of the parts, but I have enough to then use a standard ATX power supply for testing.
Will the power adapter board work? Will the IIsi "just work"? Or will I find more work to do? You'll have to watch to find out!
* The IIsi and Iici power supplies are electrically compatible, but not physically compatible: Apple turned the power connector 180°. Not that they were physically compatible size wise to begin with, but the connector rotation makes using a Iici power supply on a IIsi just a bit awkward...

![The Macintosh IIsi: Can I Find the Broken Trace(s) on Either Logic Board? (Computerized Start™ Live)
The Macintosh IIsi was launched as a lower-cost alternative in the Macintosh II series. To keep costs down, Apple used more electrolytic capacitors, and the surface-mount electrolytic capacitors from the early 90s are past their expected lifetime. In addition, despite the power supply being made by Sony, the capacitors in it are also known to leak (though I cant help think cost tweaking by Apple led Sony to use lower grade capacitors).
When the capacitors seal fails, the leaking electrolyte can and will cause damage to the board. Component damage is possible, but I think I cleaned the electrolyte off before this could happen on either logic board (but well keep that possibility in mind). More likely, electrolyte seeped under a chip and worked its way under the solder mask to corrode one or more traces. The break could even be small enough to not be apparent without magnification... or a multimeter.
Get ready to embrace the beep of the multimeter in continuity mode, as we have 32 data and nearly as many address lines to check at multiple end points... IIsigh.
Will we find trace damage on either logic board? Will I have to remove the most difficult to solder parts (looking at you 68030 and RBV chips)? Will I have at least one working logic board by the end of the stream? Youll have to watch to find out!

Theres three rows of bad sockets left in COMPUTER, so the project to replace all the original sockets is in the home stretch. With each new row of sockets, both the appearance of the motherboard and my confidence in a fully-working COMPUTER increases. Maybe tonights the night.
Will I get the remaining sockets replaced tonight? Will I be able to test the board? Will I find a mistake the had way? Youll have to watch to find out!

I thought I was nearing completion of my restoration of COMPUTER, the name I have given to my Apple ][+ clone made by MCA of Japan... that is, if the silk screen on the motherboard can be trusted. And Im going for a restoration here, with exceptions made for adding a Super Serial card and any expansion cards needed to make the ones that were included work.
Last week, after confirming that my other clone board works, we tried to swap chips between COMPUTER and the working clone board. After not having luck with any of the expected chips, and even less than expected chips, I managed to notice that I had a 74S195 installed in COMPUTER where the working clone board had a 74LS195... and when I swapped those two chips, the fault on COMPUTER changed. Better yet, that swap seemed to fix the mysterious zero page errors in Dead Test.
This begs the question: did I install the wrong type of chip anywhere else on COMPUTER?
Will we find the bad logic chip? Will I find more bad 4164s along the way? Will that Disk ][ Controller Card start working in COMPUTER? Youll have to watch to find out!
