In this UCSF Department of Medicine Covid-19 Grand Rounds, we will discuss the pause in the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine after reports of rare and dangerous blood clots. Dr. John Moore, an international expert on virology and immunology, will review what we currently know about this side effect. He’ll also discuss the mechanisms of the various vaccines, as well as their efficacy and side effects. UCSF hematology expert Dr. Andrew Leavitt will discuss what is known about the syndrome of vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia, including how to recognize and treat the disorder. The session is moderated by UCSF Department of Medicine Chair Bob Wachter.

In this presentation, Dr. Raza will provides a brief overview of the Canadian health care system, outlines how primary care and family medicine fit in, and explores the contemporary crisis and opportunities for reform.
Danyaal Raza is a family physician with Unity Health Toronto’s St. Michael’s Hospital, and Assistant Professor with the University of Toronto’s Department of Family & Community Medicine. He is the founding physician lead of the Sumac Creek Health Centre in Toronto’s Regent Park, the largest social/public housing community in Canada, and a member of the Decent Work & Health Network. Dr. Raza has also served as Chair of Canadian Doctors for Medicare, is a Fellow of the Broadbent Institute, and in 2021 was named to The Medical Post’s ‘Power List’ as an influential physician voice in Canadian health policy.")
