The classic American archetype, from the Native American coyote to the the Modern Music Man: Danion Brinkley is embraced by the collective intelligence, his antics are a delight that leads to a greater awakening. As once said of Bill Clinton, "he is only one scandal, one peccadillo, away from 100% popularity".
The more LA Times articles about him, even YouTube videos by journalists, the more beloved and popular Danion becomes. For the simple reason that he transcends the rancerous Denyer (Skeptic)/True Believer Debate. He is about love, about joy, about seeing the good.
He works with the dying, he embraces the burdens of spirituality as well as its joys. He has an integrity that transcends the details of life. I once wrote down every prediction he made for his fans, when we spent a day together. Later I called them. Hardly any of them came true. And guess what, they all loved him. They told me they learned so much from him, so what if they didn't didn't get that dream job or find a new boyfriend. They didn't think it was going to happen anyway.
I have seen this personally. I was once lecturing about near death experiences. Danion lectures after me. I spoke passionately of how each of us must find our own version of spirituality and our own connection to whatever this "god" is. The Host of the Conference, a New Age Fundamentalist, was deeply offended by my words. I was supposed to say that "all" near death experiences followed a given pattern, with predictable imagery. Since this isn't remotely true, in the middle of my lecture I was asked to step down. My research oriented talk, which included Japanese and African near death experiences conflicted with the Host of the Conference's beliefs.
Danion followed me, after I was kicked off the stage. He calmly took up exactly where I left off. He said "as Dr. Morse was saying, each one of us will have our own unique spiritual experience at death" and proceeded to finish my lecture precisely as I wrote it. Since he and I had not spoken prior to the conference, how did he know almost precisely what I was going to say. And yet he did, and had the courage to say it after I was 86'd for saying the exact words.
The coyote is that god-like being that enlightens and informs us, that triggers transformation and awakening, while playing fast and loose with the details of life. Yet this archetype has integrity, has a greater truth and a higher moral purpose in mind. The critics of the Coyote always seem to end up sounding mean spirited, frankly evil. The greatest and highest good is always the Coyote's goal.
