Child support laws are changing, and the conversation around 50/50 custody, shared parenting, child support calculations, and fathers’ rights is getting much bigger. As states rethink how parenting time affects child support, men are asking another question: What happens when a father pays more child support than he actually owed?
In this video, Remi Rene breaks down the changing child support conversation surrounding shared custody, parenting-time calculations, child support overpayments, and possible refunds. We look at changes involving states including Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, and Kentucky and why increased parenting time is raising new questions about how child support should be calculated.

What happens when too much child support was withheld? What happens when an order changes but the money has already been paid? And what happens when a man pays child support for years only to later discover through DNA testing that he is not the biological father?
This isn't about whether fathers should support their children. The bigger question is whether the child support system should accurately account for income, parenting time, shared custody, expenses, and parentage and what should happen when those calculations are wrong.
If Mom and Dad earn roughly the same amount, have their child 50/50, and both pay the expenses of raising that child in their own homes, should traditional child support still be paid?
And if DNA later proves a man wasn't the biological father, should he ever receive his child support money back?
