Mechamaru or Kokichi Muta is a character introduced with a lot of baggage already to deal with. Though over time he would become more then just a similar student of the Kyoto branch and a transform is a key figure in the progress of the main story. Though his loner mentality where he believed he could save everything on his own would be his own undoing.
