The 9-to-5 schedule became the standard for white-collar work because it made supervision easier. Everyone in the office at the same time meant simpler meetings and straightforward coordination. After WWII, suburbs, school systems, and rush hour traffic locked it into place. Now most knowledge work can happen asynchronously from anywhere. We're still organizing it like we're coordinating train arrivals. Full video on YT.
