Two shootings in Thailand happened in less than a week.
Within days, the Prime Minister suspended new firearm purchase permits and ordered a review of existing licenses.
No new law.
No long national debate.
Just one announcement, and an entire country’s legal pathway to buying a gun got shut off.
That is what happens when gun ownership is treated as permission instead of a right.
Thailand already has millions of firearms in civilian hands. The report says there are an estimated 10.3 million guns in circulation, with only about 6 million registered. That leaves more than 4 million firearms unregistered or potentially illegal.
And the government’s response is to close the front counter for the people still trying to follow the rules.
That is the part Americans need to understand.
When people panic after something horrible happens, government almost always answers with more power for itself and less power for you.
That is exactly why the Second Amendment matters.
A bad week should not be enough for the government to wake up and tell the entire country, “You can’t legally buy a gun anymore.”
Thailand is finding out what permission is worth when the mood in the room changes.
