Little Beauties... Early Purple Orchids David Crossleys The Great Outdoors 2026-05-12 | Another visit to this "Off The Beaten Track" location to see how the Early Purple Orchids are doing, I could only find 8 this year. The location is getting more difficult to penetrate with fallen trees, thick brambles and collapsing muddy unstable sliding ground. This is probably my last visit, because the reward now isn't worth the effort, but I did manage to shoot this short video.

I've tried show anything that's different from previous years but it seems that our garden visitors have evaded us this month, There's very little new material to film and it's very Time Consuming just sitting and watching with very little reward so I'm easing off for a while, is it my eyes that are not as sharp compared to a few years ago I don't know? Any way for what it's worth i've finished April's Diary. If anything exiting or different occurs during the Summer I'll fiim it, but for now I'm taking a short break until I've filmed enough worthwhile material. We love our Wildlife Garden but not at the expence of walking and our other interests.

This has been a long, damp winter for us and I'm glad it's behind us. I'm now using a Radio Mic for some of the "Talking To Camera Shots" and I no longer have to shout when I'm some distance from the camera, but I'm still working on the best audio settings. Barley Walk March 2025 David Crossleys The Great Outdoors 2025-03-28 | Friday 28th March 2025. Yesterday, Thursday, was a beautiful Early Spring Day, so we were back in Barley for one of our usual walks. To limit the weight of my normal video camera equipment I've changed to the Smart Phone for recording the less important projects, so now I'm only carrying my Phone, a pair of Binoculars and the usual small Rucksack. It's important for us to keep active as long as possible and for me to keep my mind active with these little projects. Footnote... I've just delved into my first Script to Speech in the new AI world (artificial intelligence) it isn't perfect but the two short bits of narration are generated by " RYAN set to the Cheerful Mode setting"

An Idea for a Snowy Day. Instead of carrying around my heavier video equipment I just used the phone to make a simple personal record of a few of our walks. Looking through my old Hard Drives I found this old Super Eight Cine Film, Dubbed Sound off a small Portable Tape Recorder. It was filmed in 1980 probably in the very early days of the Electric Car. I worked as an Engineering Instructor at the Lucas Engineering School in Burnley The Copy is rather Crude compared to today's standards but I'm sure it has some historical value.

Heads above the Clouds David Crossleys The Great Outdoors 2024-09-30 | I've just dug out this video out of the archives and it's coming up to 19 years ago when I was 65 years old, Five of us were on a lad's day out on a memorable walk of around 13 miles which is now well out of my comfort zone and probably unachievable. Sadly two of my pals are no longer with us but it's a precious memory of that great day out. This is a fairly crude video compared to today's standards. July and August Garden Diary David Crossleys The Great Outdoors 2024-08-29 | This has been the most unsettled Summer that I can remember since we moved to our present house 40 years ago. The amount of Wildlife visiting the garden seems to have been very limited this year, I've still tried to film as many different subjects to create a watchable Video Diary but the whole 2 months videoing lacks the normal variety that I'd expect.
