Grasshopper or cricket? Here's how to tell. Looking at the antennae is a great way to spot the difference between a grasshopper and a cricket, as entomologist Robin Hutchinson explains. Cricket antennae tend to be longer and thinner, and grasshopper antennae tend to be shorter and thicker.
There are other differences: Grasshoppers are generally more active during the day and crickets are more active in the evening. Grasshoppers are herbivorous while some crickets are omnivorous.
