This is a great cast-on, useful for both starting a center to knit in the round, or for knitting back and forth. I show how to set up for knitting back and forth in this video. I often use this method for my shawl patterns, both to start from one tip (like Seismic) and to start a modern hap construction (like Dry Creek). For knitting flat, you'll want an odd number of stitches. To set up a center start in the round, you'll want an even number.
