This cast-on can be used any time you might need to start a circular project in the center. It gives a nice tight and tidy center point. I particularly love it for top-down hats plus center out blankets, washcloths, and projects that use heavier yarns. The version I'm showing here uses a crochet hook to cast on 8 stitches and then those stitches are placed on four double pointed needles to continue the project. This method can also be used to cast on for the magic loop method or for knitting with two circular needles.
