Hou Hsiao-hsien international breakthrough with this picaresque view of young loafers on adventure in the big city. A study of moral decay, disintegration and uprooting as a result of Western achievements. Digitally restored in 2015 by Cinematek, in close collaboration with the director and using the color negative.
