Washington Examiner Commentary Editor Conn Carroll joins Investigations Editor Sarah Bedford to discuss how Vice President Kamala Harris faces significant challenges in garnering support from men, particularly black men — a demographic that traditionally leans Democratic. In an effort to address this decline, she is proposing the legalization of marijuana, but it remains to be seen if this is an effective strategy. Additionally, the Democratic Party has attempted to appeal to men through figures such as Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN). Meanwhile, Harris's remarks on Columbus Day, framed as a celebration of indigenous peoples, have sparked discussions about the evolving narrative around this holiday and its implications for her political messaging.

During his 1980 presidential campaign, former President Ronald Reagan ran on shutting down the Department of Education, then in its infancy. But he couldn’t even get a Republican in Congress to introduce a bill to do it.
Ever since, Republican presidential candidates have made the same campaign promise, only to not really know what to do with the department when their friends in Congress tell them to pound sand.

Washington Examiner White House Reporter Naomi Lim joins Magazine Executive Editor Jim Antle to discuss Vice President Kamala Harris maintaining a robust media presence, with Democratic strategists generally optimistic about the approach, viewing it as a way to connect with a diverse audience. Her recent event with Republican supporters in Pennsylvania, coupled with an interview on Fox News, a platform known for its Republican viewership, suggests a strategic effort to reach undecided voters who may be open to crossing party lines. This dual approach indicates that the Harris campaign is keenly aware of the shifting dynamics among the electorate and is actively working to appeal to a broader spectrum of voters.

Washington Examiner Economics Reporter Zach Halaschak joins Magazine Executive Editor Jim Antle to discuss Vice President Kamala Harris's unveiling of her new initiative aimed at supporting black men through various economic proposals, the reception of which remains mixed, highlighting the complexities of addressing economic disparities. While there are no legal barriers to creating programs that benefit specific economic categories, questions remain about the effectiveness and implementation of these initiatives, particularly a proposed cryptocurrency component. Additionally, Harris's running mate, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), is facing criticism for his fiscal management in Minnesota, which is raising concerns about the viability of the overall plan.

Washington Examiner Magazine Executive Editor Jim Antle joins Editor-in-Chief Hugo Gurdon to discuss if the focus on media appearances is normal, and if not, is there a reason why the two candidates are focusing on it? Does the sudden media blitz from Vice President Kamala Harris have to do with polling against former President Donald Trump? Can Harris change the narrative to being the candidate that is open to the press? Trump isn't afraid to go against interviews faced with adverse questions, just like the Bloomberg interview about tariffs. Should the two candidates focus on their demeanors or keep hammering each other on policy? Also, takeaways from the Senate debates; does it look like the Republicans will have the upper chamber?
