The deciding factor for this one was twofold: 1. It's got a hilariously overwrought (and overlong) Tim Hortons Christmas ad, and, 2. This seems to capture those last days of the last of old-school Canadiana (Zellers, anyone)?
Did anyone else hate "Providence" as much as I did?

I have no idea what channel this ran on, but these tapes were mostly recorded in suburban Toronto (specifically, Hamilton), so, I think I'm safe in guessing these aired on local Toronto TV. The other recordings on this tape seem to date to mid-1989, so, I think it's a reasonable guess.

Starting off with my favorite of the lot, I've split this into two parts--first, the WNBC 11 o'clock news in its entirety, then, in its own separate post, the ad breaks from the Tonight Show, which ran immediately after.

ALL COPYRIGHTS (AND WRONGS) ACKNOWLEDGEDThe Perry Players (Video Demo – Circa 1980) (REMASTERED from original tape) (1080p)ArchiveAnnex2022-06-13 | Finally equipped with a decent Frame Synchronizer & Time Base Corrector, I’ve taken another stab at transferring this one.
The good news: This is straight from the original ¾” tape.
The bad news: It had gone sticky again. The tape was baked and transferred…and shed to the point of clogging my deck’s heads partway in. This posting is a composite of two different passes at the tape.
The original story: NOTE: I could’ve sworn this was a viewer donation, but I guess it wasn’t—must be thinking of a different set of tapes.
(Written in 2017) A few years ago when I bought a fixer-upper U-Matic deck, I went on eBay and bought the cheapest batch of random tapes I could find. The whole idea was simply to get my hands on some junk and/or blank tapes to play around with while attempting to restore the deck. What I didn't expect was for one of the tapes to be home to a video demo tape for a mega-obscure R&B group--seriously, I can't find a shred of info on this group--no names, no recordings, no nothing. While these guys don't quite stack up to comparable groups of the time like Earth, Wind & Fire and Kool & The Gang, they're still pretty damn good. "This Is Where Love Begins" is especially nice. Conversely, "I Really Want To See You Again" is just a tad overbearing. Enjoy some gloriously/overtly late 70's/early 80's effects and fashions to go with your Soul. The looping footage at the beginning is especially amusing.
The songs are: 0:26 - Band Intro (not an actual song) 1:00 - I Can Be Anything 5:48 - This Is Where Love Begins 10:32 - Share My Life 14:54 - I Really Want To See You Again
There is no date listed on the tape or footage, but I believe this dates to about 1980.
